Aegis Meer

n the language of the Northmen, Aegis Meer is heralded as "The Protector's Boundary". This city lies on the Ambermere - a huge protected bay that shelters the city from the worst of the elements coming from the sea. This community marks one of the few larger settlements of the Freemen who inhabit the Unbound Lands, and is the place where the leaders of the different Clans can meet with under the peace of this place's religious leader Grenilka the Wise. Hardy folk who roam the colder northern parts of the continent congregate in Aegis Meer for sanctuary from the elements, to share stories of their travels, rest by the warm hearth and to facilitate trade with the south. Aegis Meer is a hub where Empire citizens may requisition mercenary companies, trade for pelts, fish, furs and bone products and charter voyages to the nearby islands. Whale meat and blubber are also luxury goods that can be found in the Aegis Meer. The city's expansive dockyard is home to many vessels attached with harpoons, which are used to hunt in the harsh waters outside of the protection of the islands surrounding the Mere. Most outsiders are generally treated with an air of suspicion, and it is difficult to interact with many of the local populace. Specific traders from Dol Gadmen act as 'brokers' - trusted individuals amongst the Freemen clans who conduct business with the locals on behalf of their employer. If you are not accompanied by a local, being sponsored by a broker is essential in Aegis Meer. The city feels very old. The buildings of this strange city are made of stone and wood that look as though they have been there weathering the cold for millenia - a trait very much mirrored by their inhabitants. The pointed, yellow rooves of the city are distinct and represent the famous golden sunsets that appear over the Ambermere. Aegis Meer is home to many holy sites - most resembling the Avanis Pantheon, though word carries that some religious idols and worship is unfamiliar to travellers from the Empire.
