West Bharazad

West Bharazad is a large province loosely controlled by the halfling Great Families. It is a land of thick jungle, noxious swamps and misty cliffs, and is connected to East Bharazad by the Sa'riel Pass.

Inhabitants

Cities of Bharazad West are ruled by the halfling Great Families--ancient halfling lineages which have occupied Bharazad for centuries. Each city in Bharazad West is under the control of a single Great Family who claims the city's land as their ancestral home.   Dragonborn of all hues are abundant in Bharazad. Humans and elves (Somnians in particular) are common also. The now-extinct Sun Elves once called Bharazad home, and though their lineage is long faded, their yuan-ti cousins remain in small numbers.   Bharazad West is also home to a wide variety of hostile beasts and darker denizens. The humid jungles host a dizzying array of feathered reptiles, collectively called Saurians, and dragons are common in the sheer cliffs.

Government

The halflings of Bharazad West lay claim to this territory, as well as the eastern deserts of Bharazad, most of the Barcencico sea and fully one-third of Nuriliath also. In practice, halflings occupy their jungles, and the eastern deserts are by and large arid, unchecked wastelands which go unclaimed by any other worldly power and thus falls under halfling control de facto, if only on paper.

Settlements

  • Cartanada. Capitol and seat of power for the Romero Great Family.

    Legends

Fountain of Youth. Legends hold that the fountain of youth is lost within the vines and overgrowth of Bharazad's jungles. Eternal life to whosoever finds its hiding place.

    History

In the fall of 306 S.A, while Melorn was reeling from the War of Retribution the halflings of Bharazad arranged a rare trade deal with the Arborean Elves of Melorn--the elves traded their valuable Ironwood for the protection of their people. The arrangement was short-lived and spanned only 18 months and adequate for the production of a single galleon.
