Cartanada Settlement in D&D | World Anvil

Cartanada

Cartanada is the capitol of Bharazad, found high atop a high jungled plateau in the Syracks. Low bungalows interspersed among large forest-gardens of plump fruit and enormous animal pens give the city a wilder appearance, and the halfling capitol is often described as several very close villages, rather than a single city. The city is the central seat for the largest halfling Great Family, the Romeros.   Cartanada is an unconventional 'port' for the halfling flight-paths that connect the capitol to the other halfling communities, as well as the inland, elvish communities westward in Nuriliath.

Domestication of Saurians

The talents of the Romero family have proven sufficient for taming the wild, savage saurian beasts that roam Bharazad's wilderness and these domesticated saurians have become the focus of Cartanada's trade and agriculture. A few types of saurians are common in the city:   Flying Saurians. Large, flying lizards used predominantly for travel, so the citizenry can avoid the treacherous (and enormous) land-walker saurians of the jungles below. Some larger saurians are fitted with sky-carriages for important people or larger cargo shipments.   Pack Saurians. Stocky, quadrupedal lizards of various species ranging from the size of an ox, to that of a large house. These animals are used for agriculture and for ferrying heavy cargo around the plateaus.   Battle Saurians. This broad term includes flying saurians and pack saurians trained for battle, and also the more specialized hunter saurians (e.g. raptors and rexes) whose purpose is combat exclusively.

Sky-racing

Cartanada hosts the famed 'sky races', where competitors race through the Syracks atop flying saurians while attempting to evade the dangerous wind-tunnels and wild saurians of the mountains.

Worship

Most citizenry of Cartanada pays tribute in some degree to Callahan, the skyborne god of freedom and artistry.
