Teniel Library

The largest of more than fifteen public libraries in the city of Khazigur, Teniel Library on the Wizards College campus is the public repository of books, scrolls and other documents managed by the Archivists Guild, and represents a subset of the total collection; the rest of the material is kept in private collections inside the House Absolute.

With several hundred thousand individual documents, books, and scrolls, as well as hundreds of pieces of historical artwork, the library is an important resource for study in all manner of subjects as well as the keepers of fictional works such as plays, operettas, and children's stories dating back tens of thousands of years. The Archivists not only catalog and preserve existing works, but also recopy and reprint aging works before they are lost forever.

Writing has existed on the Orbis for nearly seventy thousand years, and metal-typeset, cranked printing presses for nearly eight thousand - though the lack of kinetic power sources like reliable steam or electrical energy limit the output of these essentially hand-operated machines. Nevertheless the Teniel Library - Teniel being the Angel of knowledge and civilized pursuits - contains a wealth of documents seen nowhere else in the world. Naugor is an even larger city, but the warm, wet climate is terrible for paper and preserved skin pages, and most other cities in the empire are lucky to have a single library. As such, the Teniel Library attracts sages and scholars from across the Orbis, and copies of important works from other lands are also kept safe inside the various buildings on the campus that organize the collections' information into more readily-searchable data.

Architecture

Classical collonades, white marble and gold. As much a temple to knowledge as a library of documents. Despite its significant age, it hasn't meen added on to or much modified over the centuries, other than the installation of magical heating, cooling and dehumidifying pipes in rthe ceilings and floors. It comprises 3 main floors with a central tower rising to a total of 7 stories. The stacks are open to the public but for the most part only active students or members of the Wizards guilds (Grey Heads, Obscurati, Imperial Finance Council, etc) can borrow books out of the collections.
