Astrellas

Astellas, land of the fierce, the strong, and the dominating. It is perhaps the most influential of all nations in the modern era. Since its reorganization as an Empire after a terrible Civil War, it has become one of the forefronts of political, social, and religious progress. Astrellan people are passionate and determined. They follow the will of the Emperor and the Chruch of Romulus knowing that they will not only be rewarded in life by their great nation, but in the afterlife as Romulus rewards their diligence after death. Astrellas is a nation with a long history of violence and struggle. Under the rule of the early Kings, the tribes and smaller nations of Astrellas were united into one purpose: a unification of strength, faith, and conquest. Glory to the Emperor, Hail to the Sacred Spear, Honor for Astrellas!

Structure

Astrellas is a formal empire with 3 branches of governance. The Emperor alone makes us the executive branch. His decisions effects and overrule all other branches within Astrellas. The Legislative branch, the Senate, is comprised of 49 resprestatives from various regions in Astrellas whose duty is to care for their people and execute the will of the Emperor. The third branch is the Church of Romulus. The church plays a pivitol role in legislation, the military, and the cultural aspects of Astellas.

History

The lands that are now Astrellas once belong to several, smaller nations of people. These nations, along with Yomriah, were some of the fist human settlements to gain power in Anatole. During the Early Wars, when Yomriah control vast swaths of Anatole, the small nations were the fist to unite and rebel against their northern aggressors. It is well known that the star on th Astrellan flag, and even the name of the nation, Teirra De Las Astrellas Ciadas (Land of the Fallen Star), comes from a monumental battle at the end of the Early Wars where a great priest called the stars from the heavens unto their enemies, effectively obliterating the Yomrish forces. With the Yomrish occupation defeated, the small nations that occupied the lands of modern Astrellas fought amongst themselves for generations to claim supremacy. Finally, around 250 years before the modern age, 3 kingdoms united under the banner of Astrellas and started to absob the other nations, including the Ifreeti nation of Aspigni. This coalition continued to expand it's borders for years to come.Warring with the elves, and succeeding to push them back into the Lost Wilds. Astrellas did not stop it's expansion until it was halted by an alliance of Kingdoms to the west. Astrellas' modern day borders were establish around 230 years before the modern age. Since then, Astrellas has undergone many small border skirmishes with Titania, Merrescene and Roissaices, but was unable to fully hold lands against so many fronts. Years without war or struggle allowed the Astrallan aristocracy to grow corrupt and complacent. This came to a head during the events leading to the Astrellan War of Succession, where Cassius bested his twin, Castiogn, and took the trhone. Cassius re-orginized Astrellas into an Empire, and consolidated power to the Imperial throne.

Demography and Population

Astrellas is the second largest nation in terms of land acquisition, second only to Yomraih. It's people, who descend mainly from humans native to Anatole, have darker skin tones, dark hair, and brown or black eye colors. On average, they are slightly shorter than humans in Titania or Roissaices. The Ifreet , the largest minority species of people in Roissaice, participate fully in the government and culutre of the greater empire.

Territories

Astrellas occupiesmost of central Anatole . Their share their western border with Titania, splitting central Anatole almost in half. Their southern border is shared with Roissaices, with whom they have developed closer ties. The eastern expansion is halted by the ever-changing Lost Wilds, and their Northern border rest in the northern mountian ranges, a border they share with Merrscene. Astrellas is the only land-lock nation to date, but Astrellan aggression has led many to believe that this will change in the not-to-distant future.

Military

Astrellas is the first nation to have developed a formal standing and professional military. Since, many other nations have started to re-organize to this far more effective policy. The Astrellan military is tied closely with the Romulan church, the many Praetors fulfilling the role of general or other high ranking titles. Those of common birth are allowed to join the military, though they re limited in ascertaining significant rank. Before Astrallas became an Empire, their King was expected to head Military operations ad major decisions. Since their reorginization, the Emperor elects a Minister of War, or Praefecti Legatus, to oversee operations leaving the emperor to make decisions and policies for the military.

Religion

The majority of Astrellan people worship the God of War, Romulus. They believe Romulus to be their patron deity, and it is he that protects their homelands. The Romulan church, headed by the Praetori Praefectus, is an integral parts of Astrellan civil structure. The only voice who carries more weight than the church is that of te Emperor himself. The majority of Astrellan culture is shaped by the tenets of the Romulan faith, and most accept the churches position as quasi head of the nation.

Foreign Relations

Astrellas is typically considered hostile by other nations, particularly their western neighbor, Titania. Astrellas' history is full of long, bloody conflict with not only other nations, but The Elves as well. As such, forgiegn relations have been dicey or tenuous at best. Once Astrellas re-orginized into an Empire, they have become particularly aggressive to their northern neighbors, Mersscene.

Legislative Body

Astrellas Senate is comprised of 49 Legatus and Senators. Each of these individuals are title or land holding lords in the various regions of Astrellas. The job of the senate is to represent the needs of the people under them as well as execute the rulings of the Emperor. Most Senators stay within the capital by order of the Emperor, but are allowed to oversee their lands, should they have them. More traditionally, the Emporer would assign a governor to carry out the wishes of the senator in their home region.

Judicial Body

The Judiciar duties fall mostly t the Church and military within the Atrellan Empire. The church, with cloe ties to the Emperor and the Senate, ensures that the will of Romulus is carried out. The military branch of the church protects the imperial family as well as heads the imperial army. These crusaders, known as Praetors, report directly to the head of the church in Esquivais, Astrellas' capital city.
