Hz'Torgen Dwarves. (HIST-TORG-HEN)

Thje Hz'Torgen are a proud dwarven race that inhabits the dwarven mountain of Hz'Torgen, built in the first age of dwarves. They enjoy traditional dwarven lives of labor and monster hunting, but also exhibit a quality unique to them amongst the dwarven kingdoms. Hz'Torgen dwarves have concerned themselves greatly with the burden of accurately recording and storing all known history of Cruul. They are diligent in this occupation and possess the largest non-magical libraries in all of Cruul. These libraries contain the collected works of all races and are kept safe as the most important treasure of the mountain.   Hz'Torgens are the most intelligent of goodly dwarves, and they take seriously matters of history and philosophy, leading them to views and ideas that may be unsettling or unorthodox to the other mountains. As a people they always vote against war and find the pen to be a better weapon for world change.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Hz'Torgen dwarves are the shortest of dwarves (2ft-3ft) and are built much slimmer than their other kin. They lack the round bellies most dwarves have by adulthood and they tend to need glasses by time they are over the age of 200. They have blonde beards and blonde eyes that burn like inquisitive little flames.

Biological Traits

Hz'Torgen seem to be biologically inclined towards neutral good. They are paler than other dwarves and seem to suffer from bad eyesight at an early age. They have blonde beards and eyes.

Genetics and Reproduction

Hz'Torgen Dwarves are built weaker than most other kin due to spending less time in the mines or working stone and metal. Like all Dwarves, most never reproduce or take a mate with only 1 out of 50 bearing offspring. For this reason, dwarves reproduce very slowly but live very long lives (700-1100 years.)

Growth Rate & Stages

Dwarves spend a considerably long time as juveniles (80 yrs) before maturing into adulthood. By that times they are expected to have amassed a large sum of wealth and hollowed out their personal chamber in their home mountain.

Ecology and Habitats

Hz'Torgens live underground with a large community of their people. They hail from the land of Dhugrhoc where most dwarven kingdoms stand today.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Hz'Torgen eat only meats, sweets and alcohol.

Biological Cycle

Hz'Torgen are expected to live their lives studying ancient manuscripts and tombs of history, as well as to contribute personal works to the great Hz'torgen library. Though they spend considerable time reading and writting, they are also expected to labor 50% of their time away until death.

Additional Information

Social Structure

The young are taught in schools by the smartest elders, while the adults slave over scholastic endeavors between shorter shifts of traditional labor. Their law consists of endlessly long and complex dwarven rules and traditions while Clerics of Gr'Rog "God of the Underground" settle all legal disputes within the kingdom. When matters concern the entire dwarven race- the kings of tall dwarven kingdoms gather in a large hall and discuss the available solutions with the richest mountain deciding on the outcome.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Hz'Torgen are almost never found outside of the lands Dhugrhoc unless questing for books and tombs of great rarity or importance.

Average Intelligence

The average intelligence of a Hz'Torgen is high to extremely high, with a wisdom much lower than their brotherly kin.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

When underground dwarves do not get lost and have a natural direction sense. Dwarves can appraise the worth of natural items of any rarity (75%) by simply inspecting it in their hands. Dwarves can see clearly in the darkest of dark. Hz'Torgen also have a 35% chance of reading any language.

Civilization and Culture

History

The Hz'Torgen have been part of Cruul since the Great Age of Dwarves. In the first dwarven age, Hz'Torgens served The OondrG'rog Empire. as the keepers of all historic record. They were the first people to show scholastic prowess and inclination. Their legacy is that of historians, philosophers, scientists and mathematicians. They respect hard work but their passion is more geared towards books, scrolls, tombs and inscriptions. They normally produce neutral good families and raise intelligent children. More than anything- they pride themselves on a need to record history and progress while defending it within their fortified mountain home for all time.     First Dwarven Age (10,000 yrs) The first 100 dwarves emerged from the ground fully mature and able to speak the dwarves tongue. They were created by Gr'Rog "God of the Underground" in effort to cleanse the underground of magical beasts that were a perversion in the eyes of the good gods. The Dwarves spent the first 10,000 years building an Empire that spanned many mountains and waged battle on evil things. By the end of the first age, a brother mountain (The Druugrr) turned on the dwarven race and and thus began the first war of Cruul. Many died on all sides of the conflict with the Druugrr finally falling to the unified dwarven mountains, while the OoondrrG'rog Empire fell to the Druugrr, forever beginning a feud still going on today. At the time of the war, the OondrrG'rog ordered the Hz'Torgen to write down every detail- forever instilling them with purpose even to this day.    The Elven Feyan Age (30,000 yrs) After 1000 elves were born fully matured and speaking elven, the Hz'Torgen watched with a burning curiosity. When the time for diplomacy came- it was failed on by both sides- resulting in many wars between the two races called "The Dwelven Wars of Old". During those wars the Hz'Torgen recorded each battle and effect, refusing to allow one detail to be lost to time. The wars raged on as the Hz'Torgen pushed for peace-talks in hopes to share knowledge between elven and dwarven society. But the OondrrG'rog refused such ideas as weak and untraditional. Eventually peace was achieved by the victorious dwarves the old fashioned way- by killing enough elves to make them ask for mercy. The elves begged to be left alone to deal with a new war that just started between houses of elves. When the elves begun killing each other, the Hz'Torgen were allowed to be present as reporters of the age (which was part of the agreement of peace). During this time, the Hz'Torgen were given access to the first elven libraries and allowed to record and collect history from the unique elven perspective. For this reason, the Hz'Torgen have access to some of the oldest philosophies and text of the elven people, a thing impossible to find anywhere else outside of the elven kingdom itself.   The Age of Harvest (1000 yrs). During the age of harvest the Hz'Togen continued to record history, this time sending reporters and scholars to investigate the new Farni-Folk created by Farni "Goddess of Harvest and Home". The Hz'Torgen greatly appreciated the Farni-Folk, finding them amusing and goodly. The Hz'Torgen recorded the progress of the Farni-Folk, noting their odd practice of growing plants for food and eating domesticated beasts. Upon returning to Dhughroc, the OondrrG'rog asked the Hz'Torgen if this "farming thing" was a legitimate skill for dwarven use. The Hz'Torgen laughed and assured them it was not, convincing the dwarves to not go the way of farming.    The Age of EverWinter (1000 yrs). During the first snow fall of Cruul, all clerical spells ceased to work across the lands and all races felt abandoned by the gods. The snow fell for 1000 years as the Hz'Torgen failed to understand why even with access to all the information of both elven and dawrven texts of old. Without clerical ability to create food, the dwarves entered into a great starvation that threatened to erase them from the face of Cruul forever. This caused the unified mountains to starve and blame the Hz'Torgen for saying farming was useless, bringing great shame to them as a people. Eventually through the snow- the Halflings marched carrying supplies of food, medicine and alcohol to their old Hz'Togen friends. The food was decided amongst the dwarven people- saving them from starvation- as they were forced to recognize the Farni-Folk as their saviors. The mountains thanked the Hz'Torgen's for making friends with the Farni-Folk, an act that saved countless lives in the end. By the 700th year of winter, the first undead came pouring from underground to attack the goodly races of Cruul. Legions of animated skeletons waged war on the dwarves, elves and Farni-Folk in endless waves of coordinated attack. By the 900th year, the dwarves retreated into their fortresses, taking the Farni-folk with them, and hid from the undead for almost 100 years. Eventually the dwarves and elves decided to join forces and attack the source of the undead armies, located by the Hz'Torgens through endless investigation of old elven text. This effort became known as The Undead War of Izznn'Rot , and it saw the decapitation of the King of Drow King Hixxlrr and a heroic victory for the all good races of Cruul. This became a lasting peace between human and elf that is still respected to this day.   The First Age of Man (1000 yrs.) The first age of man saw the coming of the humans. Four fully matured humans were found by dwarf and elf in the presence of Laydi'wahni "The White Lady" . Of the four humans, the Dwarves found a liking for the one named Hamar and under recommendation of the Hz'Torgen- took him with them to OondrrG'rog. There they taught the human how to work metal, carve stone, drink alcohol and sing songs while the Hz'Torgen recorded his thoughts and words for posperity. Eventually Hamar left to create a civilization of his own while the dwarves wished him well. Also during this time, Giants were created by Greygor "Dead God of Valor/War" to help all good races in future wars. The dwarves disliked these creatures, seeing them as clumsy, too tall and unteachable when it came to crafting stone or metal (they also drank way too much dwarven ale).Over an intense argument, the giants were removed from Dhugrhoc and told to never return again.   The Age of Human vs J'oognn (1000 yrs) The second age of man provided proof that humans were a possible problem, causing the Hz'Torgen to warn the dwarves of their unpredictable nature. The dwarves watched the humans build nations and kingdoms faster than any races before them, and with the help of the Giants, they were quickly becoming a threat to the surface races of Cruul. During this age, a mining dispute sparked the first war between human and dwarf, with the J'oognn Dwarves declaring war on the human lands of Vangash. After inspecting the details of the declaration, the Hz-Torgen found evidence that the J'oognn were practicing unscrupulous mining after signing deals with the humans. Telling this to the OondrrG'rog, they decided to refuse to bring the dwarven kingdoms to war, and forced the J'oognn to fight their own war as punishment. This lead to the humans (with the help of the giants) crushing the J'oognns and ransacking their treasure hoards as spoils of war. This caused a rift between OondrrG'rog and J'oognn till this very day.     The Age of the Giant Wars. At the dawn of this age, the giants grouped their forces and efforts and declared war on all human kind out of jealousy and feelings of being underpaid. When refused half of the J'oognn treasury, the giants launched a full-scale assault on all kingdoms of man that shook the very ground. For 1000 years, human settlements were reduced to rubble and blood as the giants marched on them with mighty strides. Nearing the end of the age, the damage done to the human kingdoms was devastating. Almost all the monolithic structures created between the humans and giants had been smashed into the ground. Finally, when the giants surrounded Vangash , it seemed like all hope was lost for the humans. But, the wise Hz'Torgen took assesment of the situation and came to conclusions that the giants would soon march on the dwarves after the humans were gone. OondrrG'rog agreed with the tactical perspective presented by the Hz'Torgen and gave order to all dwarves to enter the war. All the kingdoms of dwarves rushed into the chaos, including the J'oognn, as they destroyed the giant forces while suffering great casualties in the process. The dwarves and the humans shared victory, as the Hz'Torgen recorded the day that Dwarves and man forever became allies in the war against evil.   The current Age (998 yrs.) The first days of the current age, the Hz'Torgen were both intrigued and horrified by the destruction delivered to the -now fallen- Kingdom of Sahannd. The dwarves, already no fans of Osheena "Goddess of the Deep" , greatly feared her choice to wash away the human kingdom in one mighty flood. But before they had time to discuss this catastrophe- an endless rushing wave of black blooded armies attacked each Dwarven mountain. For 10 years the Hz'Torgen defended their families and libraries as the armies of M'Guglagoth "God of Monsters and Pain" continued assault their front gates. The The B'lixnn Farg lasted for 10 years before calming to the state of today. Now the Hz'Torgen work endlessly to understand what brought such chaos and catastrophe to the mortal world as they try to find answers and solutions to the new coming age.
