Powerful Beams of Veiled Penetrating Light

A Candela Ward is a shield that wards off horrors. It is a source of light said to have magickal properties. The ward is created by carving a symbol into the candle and then lighting it. The symbol can be anything that the user believes will be effective, but some common symbols include pentagrams, circles, and runes.   The Candela Ward is said to protect the user from a variety of threats, including:
  • Wraithes, spectures, ghouls and ornery creatures
  • Dark magic
  • Night terrors
  • Sleep paralysis
  • Nightmares
  • Bleed
The Ward is not foolproof. It can be broken by a powerful enough force. However, it is a valuable tool for those who are seeking to protect themselves from the dangers of the occult.   The Order of the Shadows routinely uses two Candela Wards to keep the dark from splintering. The Orfiens experience a lack of sensation and distraction as beams of color form a subtle mist that attracts dust motes. White dust evokes purity, order, and innocence, making the cluttered sanctuary seem like an infinite space.   The ritual alcove must be properly lighted, or Queen Cirsea's curses will interfere. There is no protection from demonic spells during the Orfien Initiation. Candles divide their bodies into left and right halves with interruptions of glitter and gloaming. The purpose of ward candles is to separate Orfien death into two realms. The ceremony equips them to socialize with the living, deciding to disappear from view whenever they want.

I like it! The symbol can be anything the user things would work... this suggests that potentially powerful wards could be hidden in plain sight - as long as there's no wind to blow out the candles!   Nice work!

Thank you for commenting. Yes, it is a high priority to keep the windows shut tight - enough oxygen, but no wind. :)
