Grand Federal Executive Tower

The Grand Federal Executive Tower—also known as the Federal Office Building—is a tall, searing administration building that functions as the Executive Building and is the official residence and principle workplace of the Supreme Chancellor of the United Federation of Nations. The Tower is also the meeting place of the Olympus Council and houses the Office of the Supreme Chancellor and the other ministries. It is a predominately glass building with it’s southern face marked by blocks of Seget limestone inscribed with the names of those inducted into the Federation Hall of Fame. Located atop Federation Hill, the tower overlooks the downtown core and local laws prohibit the construction of any tower that would rise above it.   The southern base of the tower is defined by a series of gigantic stairways intended to serve as the formal entrance to the city. It is also the site of a large eternal flame symbolizing hope and the regeneration of mankind. It was officially lit by Supreme Chancellor Ahmad Ibrahim in 3356.   The Federal Memorial Reflecting Pool is the largest of the many reflecting pools in New Liberty. It is located at the southern base of the Federal Executive Tower and stretches for 2153 meters. It is comprised of granite slabs covered by 12 centimeters of water. In the summers a system allows it to create fog every 30 minutes, while in winters the frozen pool becomes a massive skating rink. An improvised exhibition game between members of the Caldwell Flames and Exeter Oilers took place in 3421 becoming a yearly tradition in which money is raised for various charities.

Architecture

The 1st floor features the offices of the Federal Executive Tower Press Liaison and staff, and includes the holographic briefing room in which the liaison remotely addresses press from throughout the Federation. Floor one also features a transporter bay.   The 2nd floor features the offices of the Federal Tower legal counsel.   The 3rd through 33rd floors feature the offices of the Olympus Councilors and their staffs.   Floor 34 is taken up entirely by the Federal Dining Room and its support facilities. The Federal Dining Room is used at many state dinners.   The 35th floor of the Federal Tower features the Olympus Council Chambers of the Olympus Council, wherein the Council meets for sessions. The council chambers are rectangular; towards the south wall is the podium, typically used by the Federation Chancellor, or by another Councilor, when presiding over a Council session. The podium is emblazoned with the Great Seal of the United Federation of Nations, and the Federation flag hangs on a pole behind it. On the south wall is a view screen used for a variety of purposes, most commonly for tabulating votes during a session. The east and west walls feature matching rows of 15 seats each, with 2 rows on each side. The center of the room is the area in which those acknowledged by the podium are allowed to address the Council– the speaker's floor. The northern side of the chambers features the gallery, an area of seating where spectators may observe full sessions of the Council; the galley is closed during classified sessions.   Floors 36 through 38 feature the Chancellor's staff, with floor 36 featuring the offices of the speechwriting department. The Chancellor Chief of Staff's office is on 37. Deputy Chiefs of Staff and their staffs are housed in the interior of 37, while the Chief and their staffs have offices along the exterior walls.   Floor 38 features the Office of the Supreme Chancellor, as well as a small transporter room and a waiting room for the Chancellor's secretary. The Chancellor's Office is heavily shielded, as are the Council Chambers, to prevent breaches in security such as abductions.   The Tower also features three basement levels, all heavily shielded. The basement levels, especially the War Room, are where the Supreme Chancellor, the chancellor's staff, and the members of the Federation High Command and other authorized Federation Councilors and personnel meet to discuss issues of Federation defense and security and to organize Federation Armed Forces operations.   Aside from its status as a political administration facility, the Executive Building contained several levels of hangar bays and landing pads for the official transports of government officials. Along the exterior of the building, enhanced security measures ensured the safety of the Chancellor from potential terrorist attacks and assassination attempts. Executive shuttles, speeders and gunships were contained in the docking area in order to accommodate guests, ranging from ambassadors to planetary rulers.
