Nomadic Elven Cremation

Nomadic elves cremate their dead, who in turn wear a death mask into cremation. After cremation, the death mask is wrapped into a shroud while the ashes are spread to a location either chosen by the departed before death, or a place those left behind believe was important to the departed person. The mask is kept on the wall of the home of their closest family member or friend for a year and three days after the cremation, and then the mask is carried to the deceased' family [cairn?] to be placed among their family.
In cases of estranged families, the closes friends of the deceased will take the death mask and bury it among their dead relations in a form of after-death adoption, or bury the mask among friends who would not have death masks.
