Nefarious and notorious, Doctor Xorbius Brandt's robotic minions frequently terrorize the people of Northport. Obsessed with the Gifted born since the comet arrived, Xorbius insists that by dissecting and studying them he can unlock the next evolution of all humanity. As such, he remains a threat to any undiscovered or unprotected Gifted, sending his Xorbots to capture them and bring them to his hidden underwater superdome. In this endeavor he is the longtime rival of Ralzamon, Master of the Unknown, who similarly seeks out the gifted to bring them into his fold.   With spinning hypnosis discs, heat rays, bubble guns and a legion of mechanical minions, Doctor Xorbius will not stop until he transforms the planet with his vision, or until somebody stops him!

Personal history

The origins of the nefarious Doctor Xorbius are enigmatic at best. His age indicates he was a young man during the Last Great War, and his accent hints at a Commonwealth origin. He clearly possesses a brilliant intellect, decades ahead of his time, but tragically chooses to use his powers for evil.

The Rise of Doctor Xorbius

Northport first learned of the wrath of DOCTOR XORBIUS six years ago, when the Gifted began manifesting their powers. There was never a single element of subtlety--Xorbots burst into the home of a family in Gloverton, abducted their children, blew the walls off the house and left to return to the bay.   Outmatched by his heat rays and armored robots, Northport PD was startling slow to turn to The Department for assistance, busy as they are with rooting out Omelan agents and saboteurs. Instead, they relied on the tactic of showing up with as many cars as possible, unloading a barrage of submachinegun fire on the robots, then fleeing when their patrol cars explode.   Xorbius' rivalry with RALZAMON, began shortly afterwards when the MASTER OF THE UNKNOWN and his loyalists destroyed several Xorbots and killed a mysterious agent operating in the city under Xorbius' authority. Battles between the two factions occasionally tear across sections of the city, devastating Aleburg in particular.   Four years ago, Doctor Xorbius constructed a secret laboratory underneath Thornacre, manor of Lincoln Giotto, master of The Column. Here, he set up a life-preserving pod that would stabilize Florence Giotto before her shadowy powers caused her flesh to completely dissolve. In exchange, Giotto assisted Xorbius with abducting the gifted.

The Shadow of Doctor Xorbius

Shortly after arriving in Northport John Carmichael ran afoul of the nefarious Doctor when he intervened on the behalf of Doris Hampton, an aspiring actress with an abusive manager. After teaching the manager a lesson, John discovered that Doris' memories were fragmented. The trail led him to Saul Henning, a low-life smuggler operating under Xorbius' thumb, agreeing to transport Doris to a hidden underwater base in the Northport bay for experimentation. Doris' gift--controlling fire with her singing voice--set her apart. John found Saul hiding from minions of Ralzamon and saved the smuggler's life, using him to mentally explore Xorbius' hidden base. Saul fled town and John brought Doris to The Donahue Institute, placing her beyond Doctor Xorbius' reach.   Ever since then Xorbius' obsessive eye rests upon John Carmichael. Determined to capture the entire school and use their Gifts to further his understanding, Xorbius began constructing the most powerful weapon he'd ever revealed--the Xorbot Omega.

Attack of the Xorbots

His next opportunity to strike came when John met Asena and Gastone Tosto, forming the heroic gang called One-Two-PUNCH! After finding Xorbius' weaponry in the hands of Column goons, One-Two-Punch investigated Keller Industrial, a former factory turned into a bootleg distillery for the mob. At the very heart of their operation, one of Xorbius' assistants stood watch over the product, and unleashed the Xorbots! The factory burned down in the ensuing battle, but One-Two-Punch confirmed for the first time that Xorbius and the Column were working together.   Coriander Society Episode 6-1: Attack of the Xorbots

The Den of Doctor Xorbius

It wasn't long afterwards that One-Two-Punch discovered Xorbius' hidden laboratory beneath Thornacre. They battled Xorbots, liberated several Gifted, and discovered Saul Henning imprisoned in Xorbius' custody. For the first time the evil doctor faced them himself--or at least in one of his remotely-controlled diving suits. Magic and technology clashed beneath the stately manor, with Xorbius proclaiming his superiority and activating forcefields to crush and contain them. But he wasn't prepared for the power of Asena's physical prowess, John's magic and Gastone's technological knowhow. They destroyed the remote suit and discovered Florence Giotto in her life-sustaining pod. Gastone made it his personal mission to free her, and in the secret lab they found a vital clue--phosphorescent plankton from the Abyssal Trench deep in the ocean. Now suspicious of Doctor Xorbius' true location, they looted his lab and left, leaving him fuming in rage thousands of miles away...

Megaxorb

Furious with the impudence of these ragtag adventurers, and perhaps somewhat threatened by Gastone's gadgets, Xorbius decided it was time to unleash his most powerful creation to date. It strode across the ocean floor, containing lesser minions within its sealed hull. Xorbot Omega towered over the buildings of Northport when it emerged from the harbor, staring eye-to-eye with onlookers gawking from their skyscraper office windows.   Xorbot Omega made for the institute set on retrieving Florence Giotto at any costs, and capturing as many Gifted as it could at the same time.  Northport United against this enemy. Heroes in training from the Donahue Institute, One-Two-Punch, and the infamous vigilantes called the Action Bunch. Even the mysterious flying ship that hovers over Northport's skies descended to join the battle. After John dropped a spectral sailing ship on its head, Asena crawled inside its infrastructure and punched its inner workings, and Gastone jury-rigged an EMP, the massive automaton fell to the ground with an earth-shaking thud, wreaking havoc in its destruction.

Back in Action

With this latest, and expensive, setback, Xorbius decided to take a different tact. While One-Two-PUNCH traveled to the distant world of Lacunus, he spent his time tracking down Carmichael and his allies. Before too long he found John's office in the Essex Hotel, Garment District, and on a dark and stormy night he struck. One of his remote suits and several top-tier Xorbots scaled the side of the building and broke in, attempting to abduct Charlie Horfman and ransack John's files for information.   Fortunately, Ben was there, and the enormous Immoth escaped with the unconscious Charlie on his back, and mere minutes later John Carmichael arrived via Teleport with King Indogalad Fleuris of Perianth and Boignus Khimzabin. John tracked Ben and Charlie to the University of Northport campus in Greenvine. After dispatching several Xorbots he spotted Xorbius' remote suit, with the Action Bunch in hot pursuit. A quick EMP dispatched Xorbius' remote suit and John made it to Northport Institute, where he found his companions and secured the school.

The Doctor Defiant

To this day, Doctor Xorbius remains at large. The Carrington family has offered to sponsor an expedition to the Abyssal Trench to bring his nefarious designs to an end--but until that day, who knows what DOCTOR XORBIUS BRANDT designs in the deepest depths...

Gender Identity

Intellectual Characteristics

Clearly a brilliant if deranged genius, Doctor Xorbius believes that magic and superstition are the enemies of humanity, and that with sufficient analysis they will be understood, dissected, and tamed. This, and a defeat shortly after they first met, is the root of his deep hatred for RALZAMON, MASTER OF THE UNKNOWN   Beyond anything else Xorbius believes himself a visionary, capable of foresight most mundane minds cannot grasp. He has a vision for the future of evolution, guided by his hand to help humanity reach their greatest potential, cast aside all belief systems aside from SCIENCE (and belief in his greatness, of course), and conquering the world.
