Vhisaur, The King of Games

Risen God of Games, Competition, Excellence, and Rarity

...it was a dark and dreary night at the Parlor when it happened. The kind of night that makes even hard-boiled men tense and pensive - like they're waiting for somethin'. The kind of night where death could be lookin' in your window and you'd never know.   The parlor's never been a stranger to odd visitors, I admit - but this visitor in particular stood head and shoulders above the rest. The kinda man who entered a room and brought everything to a stop for a second or two. You know the ones.   Well, this time, it was a head-turner of the worst kind - thought my eyes was playin' tricks on me at first, but it was real; a genuine devil in the flesh. Skin as red as fresh blood, eyes the color of smoldering embers - tattered wings made of blackened leather, stretched too tightly over thin bones.   I tasted brimstone and ash when I saw him - and a desire deeper than I ever experienced. Deeper than the 'lust' kind - the kind of desire a man has when he hasn't drank in two weeks and sees a lake on the horizon, 'cept in the shape of a man. That kind of desire.   The King of Games seemed unaffected. Kept on smokin' like a forest fire, unflinching. 'Lord of the Nine', he said - 'You honor my parlor with your presence.' His words cleared my head like smelling salts. I can think clearly for the first time since the guest arrives - the King of Games' presence a Lighthouse for the black sea my mind is adrift upon.   The guest sat down at the table across from him, and shoots me a look - the look you'd give a fly that just landed on your knee. We only locked eyes for a second, but it took all I had not to scream. Felt like I was back at the funeral - that same wrench in my heart, except a thousand times worse...worst part was, it felt good. Like a painkiller dose would to an amputee. Made me want more. It only got worse when he spoke.   'You honor me, King of Games', he said. Every word he said was like honey wrapped in velvet - made my head hurt. Like he was speaking me thoughts for me. 'I hear anything can be wagered here - anything can be gained', he continued - 'A useful place indeed, in this time when gods are made mortal'. Felt my mind slipping back to that dark ocean, flickering and sizzling like a torch in a rainstorm. The words he speaks hurt me - hurt my soul. I'm not built to understand them - his words bend and buzz and twist like an out-of-tune harmonica in my ears.   I excused myself, after that - Gods were dealing in the parlor tonight. And men like me weren't invited.

History

A rivalry as old as memory, Vhisaur is said to have earned the Ire of the Greedqueen when he managed to best her in a competition and take the source of her innate divinity, which she herself has stolen from another creature or source long since lost to time. Without her source, The Greedqueen was forced to rely on her followers for power while Vhisaur, who had already attained Godhood through his own supremacy and dealings as a mortal, simply stored his trophy away, confident that only he was worthy of it.   Now, the two eternally feud...Vhisaur, to prove his superiority to her, and The Greedqueen, to punish him and take back what she believes is rightfully hers.
