Lorel

Lorel is a warm planet with a breathable, if a little thick, atmosphere. It's equatorial region features several large deserts, which break away into rain forests and swamps the further south you go. It is a Holy Site for the Children of the Drill, though has recently been embroiled in a Civil War after an extremist group who believe that utilizing Drill space is an attack on their god successfully performed a coup, destroying the Spaceport and waging war against non-conforming cities and towns.   Since then, a Civil War has broken out over several regions; Landing on the planet is now restricted under Government Decree, however many ships still pass the area regularly while approaching the Space Port at Codai Majorus. The Space is unable to be properly controlled, as the Loyalists have made an agreement to safeguard the planet in exchange for any loot carried aboard.

Geography

The planet is split into 2 halves, North and South, by a great banded Desert. This Desert, known as The Devil's Divide, is an inhospitable wasteland. Outside of this, though, flora and fauna flourishes. Directly surrounding the desert are great rainforrests, which devolve into swamps the further from the Equator you travel. The planet itself has very active tectonics, and as such there are mountains and ravines dotting the surface. Basins are also a common feature, though many are hosts to lakes due to the high water table in many of the areas.

Fauna & Flora

The Planet's Flora is extremely noteworthy; For a start, many species of trees are host to Maple Syrup despite not being at all related. There are records of mirror-studies being performed on this planet, noting where many species were similar to Earth species, however a lot of this information is missing. A notable change from Earth flora is that these plants lean towards the Blue section of the visible spectrum, and so the leaves are a strong blue-green colour.   In terms of Fauna, the planet is host to several major species that can be seen across the region. Most notably would be the Poorly named Astrobison; a large, more pig-like creature in appearance. The species is known to produce milk, and has two large horns on it's skull. In the wild, the creature subsists on low-ground plantlife, remaining docile unless provoked. Found further south, in the heavy swamp land of the planet, is the Magnavi; A Deer-Like creature with extremely long legs, used for wading through deeper portions of swamp and for reaching the upper sections of some of the plantlife.   Of course, there are also notable predators, such as the St. Vincent's Fox. Named after a hero of the past, this stealthy creature sports a lean body, with little space for their organs. Their bones are rather delicate, but this is seldom a problem for the animal as it's dark fur allows it to stay hidden during the night, or in particularly well canopied areas. It's bite is venomous, though rather than affect the whole body this bite simply causes sudden, extreme necrosis at the site of the injury. The creature uses this, alongside it's agility, to quickly bite the major joints of a creature, rendering it unable to move. Once the creature is left defenseless, the St. Vincent's Fox will spend weeks eating the creature, as their small stomach sizes mean that they are unable to consume much at once. Once the creature has died, the fox will remain for a few more days before making off for fresher meat.

Natural Resources

The planet is a major source of wood, as all of the trees on the planet are made of good, sturdy material. While this makes it difficult to cut, it makes it excellent for construction. There is a running joke that the Lorel Ironwood is strong enough to build a ship from, however there are no known attempts. Asides from trees, cleared areas have been found to be perfect for growing, a fact that the Codai Government have used to provide most of their food for the station. Exports are large, and in exchange the planet is provided with precious metals, most of which were mined from the planet years prior during the Codai Majorus construction project.
