The Devil's Divide

The Devil's Divide, Located as a belt around the Equator of Lorel, is a vast desert spanning 2,000 kilometers in height, and the length of the entire planet. The area is extremely hot, sitting at around 53 degrees on average at the Equator. The sand is often brought up in storms, forming buffeting winds that wear away at anything in their borders. The beating sun keeps any clouds from forming into rain. The lack of water keeps flora, fauna, and human alike out. This lead to a very different North/South biosphere.   The area is considered uninhabitable, with no known animal species existing in the area and almost no human presence. It is believed that great resource wells may be present in this area, as even the previous efforts by the Codai Majorus Construction Project failed to touch this area of the planet, however nobody knows for certain.

Geography

Due to the high winds and extreme desertification, the landscape of The Devil's Divide is primarily barren. Due to the lack of markers or other windbreaks, there is little presence of dunes, and so the sand settles mostly flat, save for the shape of the rocks far below. It's extreme size makes it clearly visible from space. Despite the hostility, the edges where it meets with short planes before reaching into jungle make for stunning imagery.

Fauna & Flora

Little can survive in The Devil's Divide, let alone stay there for extended periods. Due to the harsh heat, buffeting winds, and empty wastes there is nothing in the way of ecology to be found in this area.

Natural Resources

While the surface is completely devoid of material, underneath the surface there is bountiful volumes of precious metals and rock, including volumes of uranium and iron.
