The High Church of the Drill

The High Church of the Drill is a Cathedral built in the Northern Hemisphere of Lorel, a large building constructed atop a mountain. It hosts the largest congregation of Children of the Drill believers within Codai Government space. While on the surface it is believed to be a pleasant location, there is a large military center in the lower levels of the building - extending down into the mountain. It is the home base of the extremist faction of the religion, however not all visitors are compliant - almost all are unaware of the depths, which extends for several miles.
The temple was constructed prior to The Scream in 2645, it would be during the Scream that the more militant branch of The Children of The Drill were formed; The day of The Scream was the 20th anniversary of it's construction, and struck as a capital ship was flown overhead. It has since been believed, by some, that using the Spike Drives upset the universe - and so they now demand to end the use of Spike Drives for any reason rather than to come to Lorel to repent.

Purpose / Function

The original purpose of the cathedral was to give worship to Drillspace, the very reason that space travel is possible as it is today. After the events of The Scream, the militant branch of the Children of the Drill, have co-opted it as a secret base that is disguised by the original design.

Alterations

After the events of 2665, the construction of the Underground Military Base began. This alteration has never been officially completed, as it is constantly being improved and expanded (as well as, you know, not officially existing).

Architecture

The building itself is built entirely of foreign material, seen as a way to bring together the universe. Everything in the building is from another planet, somewhere. The building is a large blue and silver U-Shaped building, with a central tower in the courtyard.

History

The history of the cathedral is "short". While it has existed for a long period of time, the isolated nature of the cathedral has kept major events from having much effect. While adjustments such as the military modification have occoured, little else has directly impacted the structure as a whole.
