The New World

The journal of William Wallingwish, the King's explorer and blessed by the knowledge and wanderlust of Amagus. May his eternal eye look favorably upon my exploration. It is has been five thousand, eight hundred and one years since creation. The Pungian Empress had blocked any trade between the continents, to punish Tallia for their war fifty years ago. I was hired by King Aethel the Second of the United Kingdoms of Albion and Keller (or as we call it, Lysandus) to find a route southward to go around the globe and arrive in Faraway. My peers believe waters beyond Sibis are a death trap. I believe, however, that if Talamh is indeed a globe as we all attest, I should be able to reach the southern sea of Dragoncrest to avoid the blockade.   Me and my crew thus have set out, on this Restra 3rd to make this expedition. May Amagus guide our path, and Calypso bless the stars in our favor, lest we be overcome by the waters of Maclir.   Restra 5th. We have passed the island of Sibis, where the old Dwarf settlements still remain. We are stopping here because of a storm.   Restra 6th. We remained on Sibis this day, for a storm continued.   Restra 7th. The storm dispersed, and we set off to sail further southward.   Restra 9th. We have been at sea for two days now. I do not know what to expect this far out in the waters. Some old Lysandan stories tell of Sea Serpents swallowing sailors who went too far south.   Restra 10th. Out this far we witnessed mermaids sailing by our ship. Amagus as my witness, they were fairer than any women I had ever seen.   Restra 11th. I am starting to wonder if a caravel was the ideal ship to make such an expedition. We are not very quick, and the men are starting to get worried.   Restra 14th. We have seen nothing but open ocean the last few days. The captain and his men are starting to accuse me of leading them to certain death. Every time I try to explain how the globe works, they believe they will instead fall off. Though they are right, our rations are starting to run low. I hope as we bend around the southern pole, we will be swift in reaching Tallia.   Restra 15th. The men began to draw straws today, voting on whether or not to turn back. I encouraged them that we merely had one more day of travelling. This, of course, was a lie. I have no idea how close we are to Tallia. I feel we are close, for we are starting to feel the warmth of the tropics at hand. That just does not make sense to me. We have been travelling south for so long, it should have been getting colder. Was our understanding on the planet's size wrong?   Restra 16th. The men have gathered around and voted that I shall be mutinied in the morning. Captain Roderick was not pleased with this development, but sided with his men. By the grace of Cardia, preserve me. These may be my final words.   Restra 17th. By a miracle, we have found land! The men have rescinded their vote. By tomorrow we shall land.   Restra 18th. We travelled onto the shore of the island, but there is no signs of any Tallian settlements. Me and some of the soldiers, armed with muskets and swords, looked for any sign of Tallian settlements. We figured this must have been an uncharted island in the Sea of Dragoncrest. We decided to camp and rest for the night, until we could find any settlers.   Restra 19th. After a breakfast in the morning, we travelled further into the island. We discovered flora and fauna never seen before, like strange red fruits and camel-like creatures. It was at that point I began to readjust my theory: we were not in Tallia. This must be some strange uncharted land in general, that no man knew about. Besides the life here, we have found no signs of gold, though the timber would be valuable back on Eiren, as the trees here looked rich and with bark that could be easily pealed off.   Restra 20th. One of our sailors, a half-orc named Roger, noted a trap within our exploration. This must be a sign of settlement. But who has been here?   Restra 21st. Today we met the locals of the islands. They were similar to crocodiles in their look, but stood on two feet like the dragonborn of Icenglav. We had begun to call them "lizardfolk" due to their appearance. The first one that came to us appeared to be a scout, who desired to know who we were. I had told him we were Lysandans, searching for any Tallian settlements, but that further confused him. He took a hostile stance against us, but I managed to assure him that we were merely exploring the area.   I then asked him about whether there was any gold traders in the area, showing him my ring. He took us to his village, where we saw more of his kind. They were dressed in bone ornaments and many ivory carvings. I was introduced to their chief, who I asked again for gold traders. He told me we were the first of our kind he had ever seen in the area. However, he mentioned he would be willing to help if we eliminated a cannibalistic tribe further west of the islands.   Restra 22nd. With the lizardfolk we travelled east of the island, and found the cannibals. We fought and killed the cannibals, and the lizardfolk were startled by our guns, and started to ask if we were sorcerers. I assured them it was merely a weapon, not like the wizards or cleric staffs back home. The lizardfolk chief was astonished, and asked if he could acquire such a weapon for himself. I was astonished by their knowledge of magic and technology, as if Amagus had enlightened these creatures as well with wizardry.   Restra 23rd. Today the chief led us to a deposit of gold in the hills. King Aethel would be pleased. They were bountiful with gold, food, and lumber. The soil looked fertile and good, and the weather was pleasant. From the clues I had gathered, there was no signs of the Tallians in the area whatsoever.   Restra 28th. I continued the voyage further east, as the lizardfolk told us there were other islands in the area. Sure enough, we found more islands along the chain, thin but bountiful with vegetation. A note to my king: if there were no humans in the area, then I speculate we have not found a place anywhere near the sea of Dragoncrest. I think this is a new land, rich and aplenty. Amagus has truly blessed our nation.   Restra 30th. We returned to the lizardfolk tribe, telling them that we would return. For now, we took samples of their fruits, bark, and brought along one of the lizardfolk with us, to be presented by his Highness, King of Albion and Keller, Aethel the Second. What else is out there, I do not know, but I hold it to my heart now that this is indeed a new world.
