The Knightly Orders of Goth

Noble Houses

Houses of Fenestein - The Four Swords

In Fenestein, the City of the Four Swords, there are four Knightly orders that have joint ownership of the city, the head of each order being the patriarch of the order.

House of Mane - The First Sword of Loyalty

Loyalty as ferocious as a lion's maw, and glory as beautiful as a lion's mane.
House of Mane by Worldspinner
The House of Mane is one of the oldest and longest enduring knightly houses in Fenestein. Founded by the first king of Fenestein, Eudes Mane, it has been one of honor and fought for the freedom of the Goths for generations. In fact, the last queen of Larian, Percivia, married the late patriarch of this order, Odo Mane.   The House of Mane thus has a patriotic sense of existing, influenced on pristine loyalty to the crown of Larian and opposes the pretender queen of Halfia, Ieasbreda, as she is a bastard pretender against the true heir to the throne, King Gabriel, the son of Odo. Knights of the House of Mane are expected to exhibit a sense of patriotism for Larian alone. The current head of the order is Louis Mane, the cousin of old Odo and a patriot for the people of Goth.   The House of Mane is a very old fashioned knightly order, only allowing men into their ranks. Many show the irony in their fealty to the former Queen, but those of House Mane swear they are more loyal to the position of the crown than the person wearing it.

House of Auberdine - The Second Sword of Justice

Justice without division, Justice without fear, Justice without boundaries.
House of Auberdine by Worldspinner
Knights of the House of Auberdine are considered “black knights” in a sense that they are devoted to ideas of vengeance. They take the law into their own hands, disloyal to the crown, believing their sense of justice is far more efficient than that of the crown. They are feared by the good and evil alike in the lands.   The current head of House Auburdine is a knight named Morris le Noir. He is a bit of a wildcard, often found to be a troublemaker against the law as he tried to enact justice within the city of Fenestein on his own, to the king’s annoyance. They are constant rivals to House Mane.   House Auberdine welcomes women into their ranks, believing they are the ones most worthy of enacting vengeful justice within the world.

House of Anbleu - The Third Sword of Courage

Be strong and courageous, and a shining knight before all those who oppose what is good and righteous.
House of Anbleu by Worldspinner
Knights of Anbleu devote themselves to ideas of righteousness and justice, within the realm of the law and the church of course. Consider them the true Knight in Shining Armor. Many consider them a little too righteous sometimes, becoming pompous and arrogant. But those remaining true to the cause retain a brilliance to their sword, and inspire courage to all those who follow.   They are also the most widespread of the Fenestein Knights, believing their duties do not merely belong to the city but to the citizens of Larian and Halfia. Indeed, they have no allegiance to the kings of either nation, though still follow their laws.   The head of House Anbleu is Richard the Blue, a blonde-haired knight who has an essence of courage and righteous vigor in his duties.

House of Monnorie - The Fourth Sword of Honor

To all of those in Goth we protect. To every living thing we shall sacrifice for.
House of Monnorie by Worldspinner
The House of Monnorie, known for their title as “Knights of the Green”, are the most humble of all. Though they are headquartered in Fenestein, many do not dwell there. Instead, the Knights of Monnorie often are at the side of the foresters of Larian and Halfia. When in a village, they are often the first knights you will see, as they exclusively enjoy being protectors of the villagers instead of the great cities.   A Knight of Monnorie is also the most attuned to dealing with magical threats, often utilizing magic or learning techniques to fight it the most proficiently. Many evil fey and witches dwell in the forests and countrysides of Gotha, and so the Green Knight goes to face it. The head of House Monnorie is a half-elf knight named Patrice le Clochard. He emphasizes the wandering lifestyle of the Green Knights and rarely shines his armor.

Order of the Templars

There are Templar Knights, which are knights of a religious sort and follow the head of their temples. Often they follow the call to fight or the call to war when the High Priest of their religion orders it so, but also act on their own volition as adventurers. Often these are called Paladins by the common folk. Some officials of the lands of Goth find these Templars to be a danger to the secular governments, and so they often pay and appease these orders to ensure their safety.   In Gotha, there are two distinct types of these Templars. The Crusaders are holy knights who are devoted to the gods and goes to war for them in zealotry and fervor. They are the most common of the paladins. The Hospitaller is a holy knight devoted to their god but works on humanitarian efforts, such as healing the sick and wounded. They are well liked by the people of Eiren because they prove more helpful and merciful.

Crusader Orders

Knights of St. Lussier - Watcher

St. Lussier by Worldspinner
Devoted to Amagus, they act as watchful eyes over the lands of Eiren. Any threat that comes from an outside world, like demons, devils, aberrations, and undead are to be hunted down and quashed as to not disturb the order of the realm of Talamh. They are called Watchers in the lands of Eiren, and are quite feared for their prowess and strange stupor in fighting deadly beings.

Knights of St. Penneret - Devotion

These are a group of crusaders devoted to Cardia to protect the lands of Gotha and preserve what is good and righteous in the world. They believe that love, courage, and righteousness are the true weapons of a holy warrior. Often they swear oaths of Devotion to uphold the greatest of virtues within the lands of Eiren.

Knights of St. Rashida - Glory

An estranged group of Paladins, these templars follow an old fey named Vivian, the Lady of the Lake. They are devoted to feats of heroism to keep their lands protected. Fate, they believe, is often in their hands and thus it is their job to lead history where they deem fit.

Knights of St. Ascus - Conquest

They are a strange and looked down upon crusading branch devoted to several different war gods. The most common in the land of Goth would be Paladins of St. Ascus, who follow tenants of defending rightful land and a lust for conquest. The second most common are Paladins of the Dragon, feared Templars who either follow Bahamut or Tiamat. The followers of Bahamut try to defend the other races of Eiren, but those loyal to Tiamat prove most foul and try to destroy the settlements of humans.

Hospitaller Orders

Knights of St. Helvisa - Ancients

St. Helvisa by Worldspinner
These knights believe they must preserve the hearth and values of family in the land. Devote to art and beauty, and the natural world. They are also called Ancient Knights, for many of these consort with druids and rangers to keep the natural world protected and healed. They are also considered to be the oldest of the Paladin Orders.

Knights of St. Alesia - Redemption

These knights are a group of extremist hospitallers who believe that violence itself should be the last resort. They staunchly follow Cardia. They believe that anyone is capable of redemption, even the vilest evils of the world, and should be given the opportunity before ever taking up the sword. They are not pacifists, however.
Long ago, the Four Houses of Mane, Auberdine, Anbleu, and Monnorie joined together to form the great city of Fenestein. Now, their orders persist as beacons of chivalry across the lands of Gotha.
