The Gunpowder Plot

The Gunpowder Plot was a terrorist act that took place in 1A 5899 against the Lysandan House of Lords, killing King Edward II, his heir, and many lords. Initiated by a group of pro-Macardian terrorists, the success of the plot led to mass hysteria across Lysandus.

History

Prelude

In the years of Edward I Oncett, he broke away from the Macardian See and began to embrace the Church of All-Diviner for his state religion, opening the Dwarves to have public houses of worship in his kingdom. This angered the Macardian See, who excommunicated the King and ordered he be deposed for his heresy. However, the rest of the Eirenian continent soon joined him, and so the only power to challenge him was Tallia. They failed, and were blockaded by the Pungians during their war.   Eventually Edward I died, Edward II, continued on his public worship of the All-Diviner Faith. But not all of Lysandus followed suite. Some loyal Macardians in the nation fled to the Wallingwish Islands, while others remained, hoping to regain political power.

The Plotters

A group of seven men, led by a Francis Fox, plotted against the Lysandan government, hoping to kill King Edward and his son to place the Macardian princess Matilda into power. They decided their plot would involve barrels of gunpowder causing an explosion in the House of Lords, to cause a stir with the nobles of the land.

The Plot

Fox ordered a George Hemming to enact the plan. Thus, on Calustra 20th, they prepared the gunpowder under the House of Lords building in Ebenwald. At 2:00, during the meeting with King Edward, his heir Richard, and many lords of the land, the suicidal Hemming set off the gunpowder underneath the meeting hall. The explosion was heard across the city. With Hemming, King Edward, Prince Richard, as well as the lords of Mywick, Anfeld, Brymoor, and Bexton were all killed, while others remained injured.

Aftermath

The city of Ebenwald stirred, as Francis Fox fled the city with his other co-conspirators, but were captured by the patriotic General Henry Pemberton. Henry himself put Francis Fox on trial, sentencing him and his co-conspirators to death. Under the supervision of the remaining lords, the parliament elected Henry Pemberton as the emergency Lord Protector and Lord Chancellor of Lysandus. The remaining heir, Princess Matilda, was left being crowned as the apparent Queen of Lysandus.   Lord Chancellor Pemberton took great acts to ensure further safety and security across Lysandus, and eventually was hailed as a hero with his strong administration saving Lysandus from total collapse. Pemberton took the safety to another level, ensuring stronger naval and military presence within the nation, while the lords and governors of Lysandus approved. The one who did not approve was Queen Matilda, but in 5900, she disappeared from the public eye, and Lord Pemberton, believing she was kidnapped, has sent forces to find her captors and return her.
