Queen Percival

Queen of the Goths Percivia (a.k.a. Sir Percival)

Percivia, sometimes refered to as the Paladin Queen by Gothain bards, began as a lowborn peasant within the city of Laketown of Manneruck during the times of Dwarf-Law. However, after experiencing a vision showing a unified Goth, she rallied the Goths together as a knight called "Sir Percival" and became the first true Queen of the Goths, ruling from 1A 4215-4256.

History

Beginnings of Revolution

Percivia's life as a peasant is largely unknown to modern chroniclers. It is know that she was probably a miller's daughter who was born sometime in the year 4195. What is known is that in the year 4210, she claimed to have a vision of a unified Goth and testified this before her local duke, who dismissed her as crazy, especially as a woman. Thus, Percivia decided she needed to cut her hair and disguise as a man. She went around calling herself "Sir Percival" to the townsfolk relaying her vision. The gathering she got was rather large, to the point where the duke could no longer ignore her. Laketown soon realized she was a woman and found her brave rather than crazy. Thus, the people of Manneruck paraded her cause around, getting the attention of the Dwarf King of Manneruck, King Dirge.   He promptly tried to arrest "Sir Percival", but she escaped from his grasp. Then, during the winter of the same year, Percivia was gifted a set of plate armor and marched the peasants of Manneruck toward King Dirge. His military was quickly overrun and the peasants stole the king's bronze crown and placed it on the top of Sir Percival. Thus, the people of Manneruck proclaimed her as "Queen Percival". The teenage queen rose her hand and gave a speech, saying:
"Yes! Listen, dear Goths! No longer shall we be ruled by the Dwarves of the Mountains. We shall return to the might of Vincent Goth and reclaim the land that is rightfully ours! All of the land for one kingdom, and one kingdom for all the goths! All for one, and one for all!"

War for the Unification of Goth

The deposed King Dirge went to the Norden Emperor named Nordfili. Emperor Nordfili grew angered in the uprising, and decided to put down the rebellion with most of his army, just to teach a lesson. During this time, the young Queen Percival took the Oath of Conquest, becoming a paladin to properly unify Goth with an iron fist and sharpened sword. Marching with the armies of Manneruck she travelled to the city of Diede-Hofen and gained the support of it's duke. She did the same with Fenestein. During this, Emperor Nordfili besieged the city of Manneruck, and so the armies of Queen Percival fled to evade the enraged Emperor.   In the year 4214, Queen Percival's army marched south around the Dragonscale Mountains until Emperor Nordfili tried to corner them into a canyon. However, Queen Percival used the canyon's geography as a bottleneck choke point for the Dwarven army, and used a sneak attack from the rear of the Dwarf army to flank them. This battle would be called The Battle of Percival's Rock. One of Queen Percival's brave knights, named George Mane, captured the Dwarven Emperor. Queen Percival forced Emperor Nordfili to sign a treaty proclaiming her the ruler of Goth, but the Dwarf Emperor spat upon it and said it was merely an armistice and nothing more.   Then, in 4215, Emperor Nordfili broke the treaty and marched toward Manneruck where Queen Percival was ruling. However, the northern rulers of Icenglav and the Kingdom of Danen remembered that they once formed an alliance with the ruler of the Goths that had not been fulfilled in contract. Thus, wishing to weaken the Nords, the two kingdoms joined Queen Percival's uprising and attacked the northern parts of the Norden Empire. A few small battles took place between Queen Percival and some of Emperor Nordfili's smaller regiments while he dealt with the larger Icenglav-Danen alliance.   Until, finally, near the fall of the same year the armies of the Goths, Danen, and Icenglavians reached the valleys of Vatlstein and confronted the entire army of the Dwarven Nords. The Ice King, the elderly Nicolai VII, sent a great storm over the battle and started to muddy the ground for Dwarves. Queen Percival ordered her archers against the Dwarves, who had a hard time moving through the thick and sloppy soil. Eventually, the Dwarven Emperor was captured again, and this time was confronted by the three monarchs. He signed the treaty fairly this time, giving sovereign rights of Goth toward Queen Percival. Then, the next week the dukes of Manneruck, Fenestein, and Diede-Hofen gave the young queen a true golden crown.

As Queen of the Goths

Merely 20 years old now, the young queen faced many problems: the first of which was that the dukes wished to have near absolute control over her. Thus, she learned to be ruthless to fulfill her paladin oath, and was forced to put down minor rebellions by the dukes when she told them no. When it came to dealing with the rebellious dwarves in the lands of Manneruck, she enacted a law to cut the beards of the males and the head hair of the females in a sign of disgrace when they were caught and punished.   In her 25th year, she would marry the knight Odo Mane, second eldest son of George Mane, and thus retained her own dynasty through matrilineal law. She would birth four children: her eldest son, Percival, twin daughters named Belle and Joanne, and a youngest son named Gabriel. She would raise her sons Percival and Gabriel to be knights. However, the two brothers failed to get along, with Gabriel envious of his brother going to become king.   The rest of her long reign was spent organizing the lands of Goth into a stable and centralized kingdom instead of the warring states it had always been. She created a new currency as a way to unify the three dukedoms. She also focused on rebuilding bridges and destroyed infrastructure from the wars between the dwarves. She also moved the capitol from Manneruck to Fenestein, for she believed that city was the cultural center of the Gothic people.   Despite her iron-hard policies, Queen Percival was looked kindly upon by the next generation (not so much by her contemporaries) for the peace and prosperity finally given to the people of Goth. Then, at the age of 61, she passed away, having her son Percival crowned the new King of the Goths.
