Port Royal

Written by JethroTheChronicler

Port Royal is a business-heavy city in New Wallingwish, due to the amount of shipping that takes place in the city. It is the home of wealthy planters and the peasantry class. Artisans enjoy selling their works to vacationers and planters who visit the island. The city is surrounded by tropical palm trees, has clear waters, and there are lots of buildings that incorporate coconuts everywhere.   However, it is also the main grounds for selling slaves. One can see slaves being pulled around in chains around the docks if they’re unfortunate enough not to become slaves themselves. Planters cooperate with the Church of the All-Divines in order to keep themselves in power, as they fear wizards could potentially threaten their business. The church is OK with this ban, as it places itself as the main position of power over magic in the city.   Most guards are notably volunteer, and incredibly superstitious. Any hint of magic makes them act to arrest someone.

Demographics

Humans are the most populous in this region, with dwarves and elves coming in second place. Minorities in halflings and gnomes exist, as well as Dragonborn. Tieflings are very much looked down upon, so you do not find many here.   Most of the land is owned by wealthy planters, who bind many of the inhabitants into paying contracts that allow them to work the land in exchange for food and some money.

Defences

There is a rather large wall around the city, protecting it from any land invasions. However, an invasion via the sea would seem more threatening, but there is substantial naval protection here as well.

Industry & Trade

This is by all means a port city, and the inhabitants rely on trading tobacco and sugar cane in order to even make a profit. It's clever location also allows it to be the best place for shipping to stop and unload, and their prices are rather fair. The town is controlled by the planter class, though many small businesses still stay afloat for any traveler's needs.   There is also a rather large slave trade that happens here. Indeed, slavery is a growing practice in the city itself, and has started to worry the middle and lower classes as they see their jobs being replaced by owned laborers.
