Madeci

"And behold, fallen from the horns of the dragon kings fell the wreath of the gods. It fit upon the heads of men, the new rulers of Madeci." -The Chronicles of the Madeci Kings
Madeci could be considered the cradle of human culture, being home to powerful clerical philosophies, daunting wars, and the first nation liberated from dragon rule. However, the current Empire of Madeci is the successor to that legacy.

Structure

To the left, the Empress introduces a law to the Emperor, bowing in respect to his power.
The Empire is ruled by a co-regency. The Emperor himself has just as much power as the Empress. Both make decisions and debate over the status of the empire, listen to the concerns of the church and lords, and hosts festivities, but usually the Emperor's word takes precedent over the Empress (due to patriarchal expectations). However, the Emperor and Empress have different roles, too. The Emperor leads his men in times of war, while the Empress often handles diplomacy.   The position of Emperor is above that of Princes, the rulers of the islands and city-states that Madeci controls. Princes handle local issues, but issues of national concern, especially laws and charters, are passed to the regents. The regents rely on the princes, however, for military.   The regents of the land listens to the High Priest of the Church of the Divine Lovers, where he even gets his power. In religious concerns, the regents have to abide by the holy orders of the church and do it's will. Every law must be in concordance with the morals of Amagus and Cardia, the gods of men.

Public Agenda

Madeci has been the head of religious affairs in the sphere of human culture for a thousand years. Therefore, they exert power over their neighbors, culture-wise, with this history. Their influence even travels across the waves of lands such as Lysandus and Gothai, who turn to them for religious beliefs. The Empire seeks to retain it's image as the cradle of human civilization and preserves it's own history.

History

In the beginning, when dragons ruled over men, Madeci was subservient to the gods Bahamut and Tiamat. However, after encounters with the Dwarves, in 1A 1050 men of Tamay and Potea, along with the Kellerites, revolted against the dragon kings and decided to rule the city states of Madeci themselves. They decided they hated kings, and Potea formed into a democracy in 1070. Eventually, the ruler of Potea, the Elder, would build a mighty temple to Amagus to cleanse the land of dragon worship, in 1100. This magnificent temple became a wonder for all to see.   In 1150, the city of Myrna experienced a horrific massacre as the women murdered every man. Amagus would curse the women for their bloodthirst. With the war-like city weakened, the Potean general Helikos invaded the island in 1160 and seized control. This resulted in Potea building a mighty league of city states, under a powerful Dictator. In 1300, the Dictator of Potea, Orneaus, would be angered by the King of Lontitano, for marrying Minerva II of Myrna. A war broke out for 20 years, until Minerva would be assassinated and Lontitano's power would crumble. Dictator Orneaus declared victory over the gulf. However, he would soon see difficulty in trying to rule Lontitano, and eventually left it to crumble.   The Potean League would mysteriously crumble in 1500, with the city states warring against each other. The Kingdom of Tamay from the North would invade the City States, including Potea, and take forceful control. Thus, Tamay ruled Madeci for 300 years. Tamay's governance would weaken by 1700, and left the City States to rule themselves again. Potea established their dictator once again, but he failed to control any other city states.   Which would bring a terrifying invasion by Lontitano, seeking revenge from centuries ago and thirsty for the seas of Madeci, in 1800. Lontitano, now turned into the Republic of Tallia, defeated the Madecians, under the rule of their Deoser, Claudeos. The Deoser would declare Madeci part of the mighty Republic. Under the rule of Tallia, the Madecians longed for the return to their golden age for 500 years.   By 2300, Tallia grew too much for it's own good, and crumbled. The Poteans, now seeking opportunity, reorganized the remnants of the Tallian Republic and called themselves "Madeci", the derogatory term the Tallians once called them. Now, they had embraced it. The Dictator of Potea, Drekios, would declare dominion over a "Kingdom of Madeci" that was based in Potea. A few cities joined Potea, while Myrna ruled itself.

Formation of an Empire

The Dictator of Madeci reconquered the old cities of the Potean League in 1A 4960. Dictator Zicrates, along with his wife, the Dictator of Myrna named Hedika, declared the new regime the Holy Empire of Madeci, hoping to appease the High Priest of the Divine Lovers. He would be crowned emperor by the High Priest in his righteousness, and then turned his eyes to Tamay. He conquered the weakened kingdom, forcing it into his rule.

Religion

When it comes to religion, Madeci primarily follows the strict guidance of Amagus and Cardia, the headers of human philosophy. The High Priest of the Church of the Divine Lovers is in constant contact with the gods, who in turn repeats the words of the gods to the Patriarchs, the church leaders. The virtues are often written and updated. Even the Emperor and Empress are forced to obey these laws, as they believe their power comes from above.

"The Throne of Amagus be the Cradle of Men."
