Edith Swansong

Petty Queen Edith Swansong

Edith Swansong was the Queen of Mywick from the year 1A 4320 until her demise in 4350. She was remembered in her days as a fair and gracious queen, but now she is better remembered in the chronicles of Albion as Edith the Martyr. Though she was killed at the beginning of the conflict, she played an instrumental war in the Great Heathen Invasion by assembling six adventurers to stop the efforts of Gromherjek Kin-Eater.

History

Early Life

Edith Swansong was born in the year 4300, and was the only child of King Frederick Swangsong. She was raised as a princess, noble and just, and seen as fair in her early days. Edith was a lover of songs and poems, learning a harp to sing her music. She had many boys as suitors, but none interested her. When she came of age, she still had not decided on a husband. Her father died of illness in 4320, and thus she became the Queen of Mywick.   Though she never married (she left that to her cousin), Queen Edith was well liked by the people of Mywick, as she had a fair hand and respected even the peasants. She was also known for throwing lavish parties, where she would sing songs of her ancestors. Things seemed right in the world for her in those days.   It was in her thirties, however, when she began to stir with dreams. A diviner in her court told her of the blade Pendragon placed into the Rock of Fell. Edith went to lift it, to see if she was worthy of becoming High Queen. But she was unworthy. She then desired to look who was worthy, as her dreams led her to see a great dragon destroying the lands of Albion. Edith consulted with chroniclers and wizards to find out what was the destiny of Albion. What she discovered was that, unless the High King of Albion slew the dragon, the land would be doomed.

End of Days

In the year 4350, Edith traced four key individuals whom she suspected as being worthy to lift Pendragon from the Rock of Fell: Ardor Pelota, Caoimhe Fitzpatrick, John Harvard-Heming, and Earl Uhtric Godwinson. She invited them to a feast in Mywick, celebrating the harvest. There, she revealed her plans to them, stating to them they needed to find the worthy king so Gromherjek could be stopped. It was later in the night that the dragon Gromherjek, as well as the Great Heathen Army, attacked the town of Mywick. Her knights went to defend the city, as well as guests, though the druid Nilrem defended her briefly until she ordered him to flee as well. Edith knew her doom: to die, that Albion might live. Thus, as Gromherjek tore down her meadhall, she remained inside of it, and felt his terrible flames. Then, she was no more.
