Conquest of Oga - Chapter 1

General Summary

For seven hundred years, Empress Goldbloom ruled over the lands of Pung. She was a fair and just dragon empress, thanks to her upbringing. Though war and struggle never ceased during her reign, the Goldbloom Era was seen as a time of prosperity to the people of Pung. But when the empress died, Pung began to see a decline once again. The southern Kingdoms once again splintered away, and with a weak emperor, they never returned.   Then, the shogun of Oga began a war against the people of Tsino, and conquered them, forming the Ogan Empire. This left bloodshed and destruction across the lands, with the people of Tsino ruled with an iron fist. Eventually they began to get used to the control of their new shogun, and adopted the ways and customs of the Ogan. Yet within this new empire, a new evil had begun to rise. To the southern mountains, a mighty conqueror had assembled a great army of hobgoblins. Oga depended on its walls within the mountains to stop him.   Yet Ta-Khan and his army broke through the southern wall, using a great black engine. He slaughtered the battalions that went to stop his invading force, save for a single soldier. The soldier ran to the north to warn the Ogamans about the impending invasion. Ta-Khan desired a war, and a fair fight for his glorious conquest.   The name Ta-Khan inspired fear throughout all of Oga. Yet it had been months before any new fighting had taken place. The shogun had begun to prepare the young and earnest to fight against this conqueror.
The word of Ta-Khan made it into the house of Sukawa in the town of Jo-No, a powerful mage who was raising two prodigies, Ryu and Yuri. Ryu was a training swordsman who used twin wakizashi, and Yuri was a talented diviner. The armies of Ta-Khan arrived to the town, and the conqueror tried to slay the twins. But Sukawa gave his life to stall the villain, and the two ran towards the town of Nomata, where they intercepted the dragonborn druid Shizen.   Shizen gave them guidance and used the town's problem with poisonous snakes to get some extra money. They enlisted in the help of a ronin named Kisho and a wood-elf bounty hunter named Adric to investigate. Adric investigated outside of town, and found a cave crawling with Yuan-Ti cultists. The group invaded the base and killed the cultists, and discovered they were planted there by an enchantress named Ayame for Ta-Khan.   The party returned to the town to find Ayame had taken control over the Majordomo, Tatsuo, who was completely enthralled by her. The party fought her, but she used a confusion spell to make everyone except for Yuri scattered. Yuri and Ayame slung spells at each other, but Yuri was ultimately victorious with a use of magic missile against Ayame, slaying her. Tatsuo thanked the heroes. However, another note on Ayame's body led them to discover that a mage named Kurokage was behind Ayame's position and that he had taken over a former druid tower named Mizugomu.   The party travelled into the forests to get to Mizugomu, with Adric leading the party with his elven tracking skills. They defeated a small band of hobgoblins, and soon found their camp. They used the gunpowder cannons in the camp against the hobgoblins, and fought some of their ninja assassins before they could get to Kurokage. Kurokage escaped their grasp by using a Time Stop spell and got away to regroup with his master, Ta-Khan. The party raided his office, and found a former ninja, Saito, tied up. They questioned him, and learned that Kurokage and Ta-Khan were interested in pieces called the Dragonstones.
"Collect all four of the dragonstones, and you could get any wish you desired granted. Unfortunately, Kurokage already has one: the one I had stolen."
With knowing their purpose, Adric slew Saito, who had wronged him, and then left the party, satisfied with gaining his vengeance. Shizen also stayed in Mizugomu tower, to rebuild for the druids. The party learned that Kurokage was planning to take his hobgoblins to attack the town of Nomata, and thus began to journey back to warn the town and stop the army.
