Chapter 7 - Echos of the Past

As Alexandroth pondered his wishes, he came up with the two he needed: first asking for an animated shield, and the next wish asking for a specific sword to kill aberrations. The genie tricked him on the second wish, giving him a sword only good for killing flumphs. He thus threw the sword away out of anger. As the party came out of that room, they met two new faces: Ithacus, a male elf Ranger, and Tursi, a 10-year old half-elf Druid. The two had apparently been on the island for an amount of time. Ithacus had been stranded on the island for 10 years, while Tursi was recently stranded because her parents were eaten by the Hydra.   As the party progressed forward in the long rotunda, the more they walked forward the longer it felt the hall would get. They eventually figured out walking backwards was the only way to travel this place. They found out it was the blue moss causing this strange effect. They found a steel door, which could not be open. Bogun happened to find a bucket of water in another room with a puzzle, but because he wanted only the bucket he dumped the water. When they figured out they needed the water for the puzzle, and discovered it was holy water, they had to end up fishing it out. The puzzle was completed with the weight and the door was opened.   In the next room, Merrows and Water Elementals interrogated the players, discussing how they were entering the realm of Maclir. With some convincing, the party managed to pass and had to confront a Guardian Naga, who challenged their wit. The players defeated the Naga and managed to find loot and ancient artifacts for their journey. Down some stairs they found it was flooded with water and shark infested. Tursi managed to use a spell to part the waters for the party to safely move past. They would eventually drain the water and come to the next area.   What came to them was a ginormous cliff face and a waterfall. Brynn used the Eye of the Beholder to find a secret ladder behind the fall, while Bogun used the Breastplate of Bouyancy to shoot up the waterfall. They all got to the top safely, only to realize what they had come across: a graveyard for ships, called Davy Jones' Locker. Navigating through the Locker proved to be relatively easy, though Jak's compass showed that most of the members had different desires. Alexandroth was particularly interested in one: the compass pointed at an individual in the distance.   He revealed to the party that they stumbled across an old enemy, Bartalome el Piadoso, a paladin who betrayed his family two decades ago. Alexandroth told the party he was going to kill Bartalome for the torture he was put through, and asked the party to assist him. The party agreed, and managed to ambush Bartalome silently. Alexandroth proceeded to attack the old man. As the old man was stricken, he called upon an army of undead Tallian soldiers to assist him. The party would be surrounded by these ghosts, all wishing to attack them.   TO BE CONTINUED...

Relations

Protagonists

Alexandroth Hapsburg

In this chapter the warlock found himself feuding with one of the newest members of the group, Ithacus. He harmed his dog in battle, which angered the Ranger, and now it seems the two are rather spiteful to each other. Alexandroth found himself confronted by a past evil he had been waiting to kill for years: Bartalome el Piadoso. Strangely, his emotions started to get to him, something that usually doesn't happen, as he was fueled with rage toward the man.

Brynn Inkheart

Byrnn's background as an assassin helped find traps in this dangerous area, leaving her to plan how to navigate the dungeon. She worked rather well with the new members. In particular, she seemed to help Tursi with some problem solving.

Bogun

In this session Bogun seemed focused on building more of his collection, particularly with taking the bucket. This action angered Alexandroth due to the non-chalant tossing of Holy Water. He was, however, once again useful in his skill of battle.

Ithacus

Ithacus was an elf ranger who had been trapped on the Island of Ages for a period of 10 years, hoping to get off. With his trusty dog, he proved to be an excellent tracker, and was one of the first people to realize the moss in the dungeon was sentient. With dungeons being his favored terrain, he helped keep the party silent as they moved through the dungeon stealthily.

Tursi

Tursi is a 10-year old Half Elf Druid with a strong connection with the natural world. She was shipwrecked on the island relatively recently, as her parents had been attacked and eaten by the hydra guarding the waters. She proved to be a capable girl for her age, however, as her powers of nature helped navigate the dangerous waters of the dungeon and proved herself great at a fight.

Allies

Salvador

Salvador a Tallian fighter who died long ago in the Cavern of Ages trying to figure out it's puzzles with a group of other adventurers. His spirit was summoned by Alexandroth, to which he complained about his soul being disturbed. Alexandroth drug him along the dungeon, using him as an ally to help fight the Guardian Naga.

Neutrals/Bystanders

The Guardian Naga

The Guardian Naga was a ginormous snake-like entity that guarded the entry to Davy Jones' Locker from mortal beings. He tested the valor of the party, and once he was defeated, he turned into a stone statue. The door for the party opened, proving them worthy of entering the land of the dead at sea.

Adversaries

Bartalome el Piadoso

Bartalome is an Oathbreaker Paladin who found himself trapped in Davy Jones' Locker, searching for a way to escape. It was when he was ambushed by the party that he realized he was not the only alive person in the realm.

Backdrops

Locations

Davy Jones' Locker

Davy Jones' Locker is a graveyard for people over the centuries who died at sea. It is the afterlife realm of Maclir's domain where pirates and other evil people go. Here, their souls are to be spent for the rest of eternity experiencing their tormenting death of drowning, sinking, or any other way they have died. It also has access to the Treasure of Ages, a horde of treasure that seemed to be a collection of all the loot that has ever been sunken.

Encounters

The First Puzzle

In a room filled with skeletons and water, a statue of a wailing woman with a ring was found, with a plaque giving a riddle for them to solve: “Perilous with no end to see, what took life away from me?” The adventurers had three options:
  • A pistol.
  • A rapier.
  • A bucket of Holy Water.
The party discovered the bucket of holy water was the collect answer, and placed it on a pressure plate. It opened the door in the first rotunda room. Then the statue responded: "My livelihood went away, for his love was the sea."

The Room of Tides

When the party entered this room, they discovered a horde of Merrows and Water Elementals waiting for them, protecting what laid beyond. Alexandroth and Byrnn negotiated with the Merrows, stating they did not wish any harm. After some convincing, the Merrows allowed them to pass if they could defeat the Guardian Naga.

Guardian Naga

In a moving room, the players faced the Guardian Naga, a snake-like entity with a human face. Along with constrictor snakes and poisonous snakes, the party fought valiantly. Alexandroth proceeded to use Circle of Death in the middle of the battle, which managed to harm his own friends more than the enemies themselves. Needless to say, Ithacus was not happy.

The Assault on the Oathbreaker

The party, when getting closer to Bartalome el Piadoso, managed to stealth in and lay an ambush. Alexandroth, however, was the only one who managed to hurt him, as the Paladin was protected rather well in his plate armor for anyone else to hurt him. As the party surrounded him, they got surrounded by an army of Revenant Tallian soldiers, much to their surprise.

Past Events

The History between Alexandroth and Bartalome

Bartalome was once a Paladin of Devotion from the lands of Tallia. Though he was part of the Church of Amagus, he found himself slowly being more concerned with tithe money and his own interests. He would evidently be moved to the Wallingwish Islands to help with the inquisition order for the Church of the All-Divine. One day, he was visited by the Habsburg family of nobility in New Wallingwish, begging for his protection. Bartalome at first helped them, following his oath. However, he soon was bribed by the tabacco-owning nobility in the land, who wished for all unsanctioned mages to be removed, as they threatened their business practices.   Bartalome took the bribe, and decided to turn in the Habsburgs, including their son Alexandroth. He was paid a hefty sum. On the day of their execution, he would watch the parents of Alexandroth burn to death on a stake. As Alexandroth himself was put up in flames, Bartalome watched, holding his bag of money in his hands. Then, a commotion broke out as a swarm of ravens descended from the heavens and started to attack the people watching. Alexandroth was set free, being taken by the goddess Morganine, while Bartalome tried to fight the ravens. As soon as the ravens disappeared, Bartalome could not find Alexandroth. Then, the man felt his chest burn, realizing the evil he had done: he had broken his oath, and would now be cursed by the gods forever.
