Chapter 4 - Blood of a Pegasus

General Summary

As the trio waited a few days in Oenens, the legate Arokas would eventually be contacted to meet the Emperor and thus had to leave Oenens. So the pursuit of Captain Oranos came to a halt. Now with more freedom, the party decided to travel to Myrna, where they felt they could earn some more money, collect some magical equipment, and perhaps get onto the path of citizenship. They met a stablemaster named Apollos who Creetens persuaded to give them free passage in exchange for an advertising deal.   Thus, Apollos led his cart through the island of Myrna, talking to the party about troubles in Potea, including the king there, named Asthenios, becoming a leper which was causing a constitutional crisis.
Theodora: Yes, poor King Asthenios Orneaus! Long ago the dynasty of Orneaus ruled the Madeci with an iron fist. Now the king's fist is more frail than the papyrus of which he writes his decrees.
As the party arrived in Myrna, they went separate ways to buy weapons, armor, and tools for themselves. Rashida's holy symbol was seen by a local blacksmith, and she was warned that not everyone would like her religion in Myrna. Thus, Rashida hid her symbol. Meanwhile, Creetens began to sell some of his stolen wine and managed to get a few suckers to buy it.   The party met back up together after the day ended at a local inn, called the Arrow of Lightning. In the bar, Creetens would met a suspicious looking fellow named Monoro, who was interested in a rumor of an injured pegasus outside of Myra. He offered Creetens some of the money they would get in collecting it. Creetens got the rest of the party in on the plan. Rashida noticed that Monoro had a tattoo of the god of blood, Loxelel, which immediately concerned her. She told Creetens and Theden in secret that Loxelel's cult was not to be trusted, and the rest of the party agreed.   The party went to the authorities, but without evidence of a conspiracy, the Amazonian Guard of Myrna stated they could not act upon it. So the party was left to stop this conspiracy themselves. Creetens picked up a local town idiot, named Ascus, to disguise as Theden if they confronted the cultists. The Theden disguise failed, but dressing Ascus up like a paladin worked. Then on the next night, Creetens, Rashida, and Ascus met up with Monoro, but Monoro did not like the presence of Ascus and told him to leave. (Theden remained nearby, scouting through the woods to remain unseen by Monoro.)   The party went into the western forests of Myrna, following Monoro along. They were nearly stopped by Dire Wolves, but Creeten's quick thinking caused him to create a fog cloud to blind the wolves and have the party flee. A few miles of walking later, they came across a fallen pegasus, surrounded by cultists, who were taking it's blood as it weakly murmured. The pegasus was missing a wing. At first, the party was disgusted, but Creetens tried to pretend to drink it's blood. The cultists eventually caught onto the party's trickery and tried to kill them.   Just then, Ascus jumped out from nowhere and started to kill the cultists with his wooden sword, using it as a blunt object. A fight ensued, with Theden sniping off Monoro, and the rest of the party slaying the cultists. Rashida healed the pegasus. The pegasus, getting back to it's feet, introduced itself as "Sadalbari" and told the party it was shot down over Myrna, and someone stole it's wing. Sadalbari wanted it's wing back, and the party agreed to help it. But first, they would need to find it, and Sadalbari suggested it would be in Myrna.
Jethro: This story gets more and more exciting, sister! A Pegasus fallen from the sky! A dimwit becoming a hero! Cultists of Loxelel! I knew this was getting somewhere exciting.
Theodora: Exciting is one word for it. However, dear fellow muse, I see only tragedy calling. Do you not hear it?
Jethro: Perhaps. I admit the journey seems quite blurry still, but I wonder what will become of Sadalbari.
Theodora: We shall see, in the next chapter, I think. We shall see...
