Chapter 2 - The Cliffs of the Southern Passage

General Summary

The morning the adventurers awoke from their adventure, they happened upon a travelling monk named Kiu. At first, he was curious about their situation, and once he heard they were dealing with hobgoblins he asked if he could help them. The adventurers agreed, and with that, Kiu joined their adventuring group. They set out from the main road south of Han-Yi and past the rice fields, heading toward the mountainous regions toward the Cliffs of the Southern Passage.   Along the road toward the cliffside, the party was stopped by a travelling band of Hobgoblins. Hu-Long tried to reason with them, telling them that he should be taken to their leader, and the Hobgoblins agreed, but still wished to kill the other party members. So, despite Hu-Long's questions, the other party members had to defend themselves and killed the hobgoblin band, but were wounded minorly. Still, they felt invigorated to still continue their quest. Unbeknownst to them, they were being trailed by hobgoblin ninjas.   Kiu was sent to scout out in the distance and saw in the distance on the cliffs a small hobgoblin fort. He notified the party. The group decided they would attack the fort. Bastion planned on charging with his horse. They led an assault on the hobgoblin fort. Bastion charged, while Hu-Long made his way toward the side of the fort's walls and unleashed his dragon breath to light it on fire. The Hobgoblin base thus lit ablaze in the middle of the battle. The party started to win, taking many of the nasty hobgoblins down, until they were suddenly bombarded by the hobgoblin special forces: the ninjas.   The Ninjas attacked Ki-Ku and Hu-Long, until they shifted their focus towards Angska and Kiu, who battled them off. Hu-Long was knocked out by a hobgoblin arrow attack while the fire continued to spread, and Ki-Ku, utilizing his ability to bend his luck, forced a Wild Magic surge, which allowed him to teleport and started attacking multiple hobgoblins with his fire powers. From Sorn Zavirr was a rain of Magic Missiles that slammed into the hobgoblins. Bastion ran into the Ninja attacks but was knocked out. The ninjas would be defeated by Angska's and Ki-Ku's spellcasting, and the day would be won.   After such a defeat, the party quickly celebrated, until they heard the sound of a horn ringing. The party looked: the burning fortress brought a mighty smoke signal. With their injured, the party escaped and found a passage near the cliffs they could climb down. As a small band of hobgoblins galloped across a nearby bridge, they investigated the burned ruins, and the party hid from their sight. The elected to recuperate in the canyon since the hobgoblins did not see them.   The night would pass, but something interesting would happen. As Bastion was keeping watch, he noticed something in Ki-Ku's bag shaking. He notified Ki-Ku. They then opened the bag: out of the bag popped the head of an infant golden dragon. With bulging eyes, it imprinted Ki-Ku and Bastion. Bastion quickly questioned why Ki-Ku was carrying a dragon egg in his bag, and Ki-Ku simply stated, "it was my inheritance." In the morning, the entire party looked over the baby dragon, and Hu-Long offered to name it "Goldblum", though Ki-Ku did not like the idea. So the name remained undecided for the time being.
The adventurers would face terrible Hobgoblins in their task for the town of Han-Yi, and confronted them in the Cliffs of the Southern Passage, fighting and proving their mettle as warriors.
What was needed to be decided upon, however, is that the Hobgoblins seemed to be scouting the area near the bridge. The party created a plan: Bastion would attack the hobgoblins attacking the bridge while the party dealt with what looked like the leader. The plan was enacted, with Bastion and Kiu charging the bridge and Angska using a smoke spell to blind the leader. Then, Wu-Long, Angska, Ki-Ku, and Sorn attacked the leader and one of his minions. But the leader, named Kai, expected them and made a counter attack. He bashed Ki-Ku and threw him over the Cliffside and then attacked Angska and Hu-Long, significantly wounding them.   Bastion and Kiu dispatched the bridge Hobgoblins quickly by killing one and trying to throw another off the cliff. (Eventually Ki-Ku would push him off the ledge as the hobgoblin tried to climb back up.) The rest of the hobgoblins were killed, and Bastion pinned Kai to the ground. But the Hobgoblin leader put up a great fight, trying to slash the goremu and his friends back, until he was killed by the heating of his armor by Hu-Long and a blow of magic missiles from Sorn Zavirr.   Then the party looted the burned down fort, taking plenty of treasure from it as well as a few strange items: one of them a staff with a snake engraving, a few potions, a Scroll of Knock, and an enchanted ring. Sorn Zavirr placed the enchanted ring on his finger, and it strangely tightened, but he felt no affects. Thus, with the treasure dispersed, the party could make their way back to the village, and promptly journeyed back.
