Chapter 2 - The Barred Bard of Bardinca

General Summary

After their defeat, Saphira and Aldric found it hard to carry Charles Mane, solely because of his weight. They waited an hour within the church until he finally woke up. With all of them injured, they went outside and found bandits raiding the stores, while the entire town was asleep. The party defeated the bandits, found a map on one of them, and then retreated back to the Snowberry Inn, for much needed rest. They confronted a lone bandit there, named Kvet, and questioned him. After getting information, Charles shoved a sock into the man's mouth, and they sent him into the town prison.   With everyone still asleep, the party overviewed the map and noticed it mentioned a place called "Pyat Point" near the local amphitheater. However, they had no idea how to lift the spell. They returned to the church, finding the spirit of St. Stepnov once more. Stepnov proposed they find the music and play it in reverse to counteract the old magic. However, that would mean finding Amadeus, the malevolent musician who cast the spell.   The party thus traveled down to the amphitheater. They were nearly stopped by ruffians, but Charles scared them away by flexing his strength. Getting to the amphitheater, they found a lone old deaf man, named Damian. Aldric questioned Damian, who apparently never heard the spell go off. Damian pointed them toward Pyat Point's location. With gratitude, Aldric informed him to return to town, while they would deal with the Wolfgang.   As night fell further, the party looked at the Wolfgang and determined they needed to rest before they confronted them. They slept in the forest, and then woke up the next day. The Wolfgang, at their base in Pyat Point, spotted the party and tried to kill them. The party was quite wounded from the Wolfgang's assault. However, they vanquished them. Then, the party confronted Amadeus in the building at Pyat Point, who tried to play the song again. He was stopped by Saphira, who cast a guiding bolt and severely injured him. Then, Charles rushed into the building, using a surge of adrenaline to stab Amadeus. Amadeus cast a thunderwave toward Charles, but the knight resisted it. Charles then vanquished the bard by slicing him three ways over.   With Amadeus dead, the party discovered the tied up priests of Amagus, as well as a cache of treasure. The priests were knocked out by the Wolfgang before ever hearing the song, thus awakening hours later. The treasure they determined was stolen from the townsfolk. Taking the loot, the party travelled back to town with the priests. The priests played Amadeus' vile song backwards, causing the town to awaken. The spell was over!   However, something remained suspicious. On the body of Amadeus, Aldric had uncovered a letter detailing that Amadeus was working under a mage, named Ungruld, and that Ungruld might target the princess of Icenglav. They took the information to Lord Levnoff, who grew concerned over the princess' well being. He paid the party gold for their hard work, and asked them to stay in town so he could give the affected townsfolk back their money. While they waited, they met a very strange bard, named Reuel the Chronicler, who knew more than he let on. Charles attempted to unmask him, uncovering the individual was an Aasimar. Reuel revealed that Ungruld was the name of Koschei's long lost disciple, but has been missing for thousands of years. He prompted the party to continue their questing. Then, as the party turned around for a few seconds, the bard mysteriously disappeared.   After a day of waiting, the party received spare stolen gold from the criminals as payment for their efforts. Lord Levnoff then requested they serve as messengers for the princess, since he worries the threat could cause further unbalance in the confederation. Especially when Winterball was coming so soon. The party agreed, and began to pack their things, to get ready for their next adventure...
