Chapter 1 - The Gathering in Han-Yi

General Summary

WAR! The Empire of Pung is crumbling under attacks by the ruthless warlords of the four rebellious nations. There are heroes on every side. Evil is everywhere. Not even the new dragon emperor, Sujin Jin, in all his might can bring order within the land as the warlords fight each other for dominance.   This civil war has waged ever since the death of the previous emperor, a golden dragon named Khogen Jyn-Long. For three thousand years, the men of Pung were subservient to the rule of dragons, but as the kingdoms of men around them overthrew their draconic dictators, the people of Pung began to aspire to do the same. With the death of Khogen Jyn-Long and a lack of his direct male heir, the warlord of Ogaman declared himself the king of his nation in rebellion. Soon, the nations of Tsino, Shikaizu, Yin, and Ukasan did the same.   Our adventure begins in the midst of this crisis, in the calm and cool countryside of Tsino, a newly declared republic styled after the ancient Tallian neighbors to their south who collapsed nearly 700 years ago. In the small town of Han-Yi, no doubt looking for help in this time of strife...
Within the town of Han-Yi, five different adventurers entered looking for ways to find money or fulfill quests of myths and questions.
  • The first of these, Hu-Long (a red dragonborn bard) used the town's bar and marketplace to start singing his strange music in order to earn money.
  • The second, Ki-Ku (a human Wild Mage), being a beggar himself, started to request alms on the streets from citizens of the town.
  • The third, a Dark Elf sorcerer Sorn Zavirr, simply went into the Bloody Arrow Inn and started asking questions about the dragons, which was his mission from the Dark Elves who sent him.
  • The fourth was a shy human druid named Angska, looking for answers to complete a star map and stop a coming disaster.
And finally, Bastion, a Goremu Cavalier who was hired by the local warlord Chao Huo-Dai. Being an advanced, living and breathing golem, he was programmed with the law of Bushido and the art of war. However, after the initial wars, he has found new purpose as a wandering warrior. He presented himself before Chao Huo-Dai, who requested Bastion to eliminate a threat of hobgoblins within the region. However, he told Bastion, "you certainly cannot do this alone. Hobgoblins are known for their regiments. You will need assistance." Thus, Chao Huo-Dai gave him supplies and 20 gold, to hire people for the cause.   In the marketplace, Ki-Ku watched Hu-Long play his moderately good pop music, and hated it so. He cast the spell levitate to remove the bard's lute, but the bard called the guards on Ki-Ku, who promptly reprimanded him and ordered him to return the lute. Hu-Long got his instrument back, and Ki-Ku was scolded for his use of magic to disturb the peace, which was illegal. He was left with a warning, and so Ki-Ku went back to begging.   Bastion approached the Bloody Arrow Inn for recruits. He interviewed Dai Hsu, an old warrior who seemed somewhat qualified. He also interviewed Ki-Ku (who seemed expendable but his use of magic was valuable), Sorn Zavirr, Angska, and Hu-Long who proclaimed himself through song as the "greatest slayer of hobgoblins." Bastion read Hu-Long's lies, but he agreed to pay the bard extra after some convincing. Before the party could leave, however, they ordered Ki-Ku to bathe so his stench did not give away their presence to the hobgoblins.   After the bath, the party went off into the night to fight off any hobgoblins within the area. They went to the road near the rice paddy fields, where they passed a tree with a large bee nest. Sorn Zavirr, with his excellent night vision, spotted the terrible hobgoblins riding horses in the distance. The party prepared for an ambush, hiding in the rice fields to jump the hobgoblins while Bastion stood in the midst of the road.   But the ambush failed: the Hobgoblins spotted Bastion's allies hiding, and promptly attacked. The fight lasted a mere 30 seconds, but it felt like an hour to the adventurers. Bastion used his training with a flail to hold back the hobgoblin leader named Krevrok, while Sorn was assaulted by two of the hobgoblin soldiers. Angska came to the defense of Sorn, while the bard Hu-Long inspired Sorn in his attacks. Ki-Ki targeted the hobgoblin leader with some fire spells in the meantime. Eventually, Bastion was fighting off the leader and a soldier flanking him, to which Hu-Long came to help and cast Heat Metal on Krevrok's half-plate armor. Krevrok began to burn to death, lit in flames but keeping his cool. It would be a final blast from Ki-Ku casting the spell Chromatic Orb to kill Krevrok, and Bastion finished off the remaining hobgoblin. The battle was won!   They inspected the bodies, taking the armor and weapons, and then made camp for the night in the fields to rest from a hearty battle. They had now formed a fellowship of adventurers, devoted to tracking down these hobgoblins and defeating their leader, but how long would such a party remain?
