Defences

The keep maintains a guard roster of some fifty men-at-arms, while a separate garrison of seventy soldiers of the Badenite Army sits in the floodplain in the northern part of the village. Uncommon for a capital city, the city maintains no protective walls. In the event of an emergency, the citizens retreat to the keep and the drawbridge is raised.

Industry & Trade

The city is dominated by farmers and ranchers. High Hill Orchard exports cooking apples, ciders, and apple jack, as well as dried fruit.

Infrastructure

Baden Hall is one of the few cities in the Kingdom to prohibit the establishment of temples within its borders. Residents are allowed shrines within their homes and allowed the freedom to worship as they see fit.

Assets

The castle has enough food stores for the entire population to withstand a siege for several months.

History

Baden Hall had languished for years, empty and abandoned, after a band of fifty orcs swept through the duchy, looting and killing indiscriminately. They were eventually put to the sword outside Kingsholm by the army of Fieren, but not before most smaller villages were burned or destroyed. A small band of adventurers known as The Union came upon the keep and drove out the monsters that had taken up residence. In the process, Malechi en'Eveil, the group's leader, came upon and claimed the deed to the duchy. He presented it to the King and was given authority to rule what had become a near-wasteland.   Immediately upon returning to Baden Hall, the new Duke set about a sweeping policy that would ensure the growth of the region. Offering economic incentive and organizing labor forces, he and his court (the other members of The Union) saw a boom in construction around the duchy.

Architecture

Buildings in Baden Hall are typically constructed of wood planks, with a wood-shingled roof in a "frontier" style development, built hastily at first, then rebuilt with longevity in mind. The upper-class homes on High Hill are built with stone and plaster., with ceramic roof tiles.

Geography

The city rests along the shores of the Baden River where it has carved out a deep basin at the base of a hillside cliff some thirty feet (9.14 meters) high. The Keep itself is located on a hard stone outcropping in the middle of the river, while the bulk of the city is settled on the eastern bank and nearby plains. A small collection of upper-class homes were built atop "High Hill" on the western bank of the river, overlooking the town and valley, along with a singular orchard.

Natural Resources

Baden Hall is rich in grain and livestock owing to the fertile soil of the floodplain.
