The Burning of the Sophia Military Conflict in Chimera D10 | World Anvil

The Burning of the Sophia

Long after Queen Marivel Amarum Walpurgis's death, the Amarum Armor Set was discovered in The Sophia. This would have been in its first iteration, before its burning and eventual rebuilding. As one of the main Shaperates as its kind that also functioned as an open forum for the residential Conduit, known now in legend as The Red King, the Shapers there thought to use the armor set not to claim power to any thrown, but to combat the charagma, as it exhibited unique properties in repelling that corruption. The leader of the Shapers, Sage Vuko Bratavich saw personally to these efforts, as this was in tandem with the Conduits goals who taught the Clerics there the art of absorbing and controlling the charagma without needing the diabolical bloodline of the The Tribe of Faust   Other kingdoms thought otherwise, however. It was too powerful an artifact to let stay in the hands of defenseless scholars, thought they. And, in swift motion, The Crown City laid waste to The Sophia.   Had they known the resistance they would meet, Shaper Paladins, Clerics, and the rallying power of High Insulates, The Crown City would have sent a larger force.

The Conflict

Prelude

The Amarum Armor Set was formly requested by General Lüttric Wolfengrad of the Crown City at the morning their forces arrived about 100 meters from The Sophia Shaperate. Receiving was both Shaper Vuko Bratavich and High Pylon Eujuil Sarotaigh. The High Pylon was blind and Shaper Bratavich no warrior. They had only a hill to stand on and forests nearby.   Bratavich devised a plan to place the Armor on their Conduit and go into the Woods to hide while the clergyman and other civilians could evacuate, but, for the time, refused to hand over the armor set. Pleased, the General removed himself from the Shaperate, noting he would be back during the evening that day to reclaim it by force. He thought they needed no greater time to evacuate the civilians, for he though that that was all they were after all.

Deployment

The Crown City had deployed a small force of 1,000 infantrymen, 100 cavalry, and and 300 archers. The entire force had one General, Lüttric Wolfengrad, and 10 commanders; each of them had control of 100 infantrymen, 10 cavalry, and 30 archers, split equally.   The Sophia, while had 300 clergy and clerics who all unanimously agreed to defend The Sophia, 70 civilians of which 25 stayed to fight (and 5 lived), 150 Insulates and general combatants, 8 High Insulates, one Conduit and two General-equivalent. This amounted to 486. Due to they layout of the building, The Domes of the Shaperate and maze-like structure, 100 were deployed to evacuate the archival materials of the Oath.   At Evening, the forces of General Wolfengrad charged on the Sophia.

Battlefield

All of the battle took place in The Sophia. The Red King Conduit is said to have burst into the flames, allowing him to be consumed by his faustian burns and lighting the Sophia up in bright flames as the dome came crumbling down. In the smoke and fire, the battle ranged, guerilla tactics only doing so much for the combatants

Outcome

The Crown City hosted hunts in the surrounding area for weeks, but it was not long after that the Crown City admitted defeat.

Aftermath

Shaperates were seen as respectable, neutral establishments by surrounding people. While before they were seen as corrupted due to their involvement with the charagma, people began to volunteer their services to aid The Sophia Shaperate. Other Shaperates began to develop and spread elsewhere, gaining infamy as guilds of paladins against corruption. Thus, despite the casualties, The shaperates became notable political powers even in rural areas as a hub of activity and sometimes the middleman in trades, as a moot ground at which to meet.
Conflict Result
Both the High Pylon and Sage Bratavich escaped with the Amarum Armor Set.
