All 2081 inhabitants of Thor 3 were killed during the declaration of the 3rd The LIR or League of Intelligent Races - CHG by the LIR with a giant laser to the planet. Things are interesting because it's cooling down... and there's life.

Who would've suspected a couple of shrooms with a symbiotic relationship with bacteria would be able to make the most of a bad situation by taking energy from the heat around them to fuel their life processes and basically eating rocks and mini-sand filled air. Due to the sheer amount of energy available, however, they've got no issue with evolving to skiddaddle around and are even attacking one another to survive. With the evolution being sped along to constant UV rays, causing mutations, rapid reproduction with spores, adding to the evolution-fodder as it really is a brutal process, and harsh natural selection, these bad boyz have been rapidly evolving to greatness and possible requirement of exterminatus.
