Taurien States Organization in Charron | World Anvil

Taurien States

The Taurien races - Centaur and Minotaur share ancient roots and association. The Minotaur typically follow the Whi-vol: (Twilight path: Wyld - The Wheel) and Renown. They have been warriors and tend to simple pleasures and disdain for scholarship and refinement. Centaurs tend to follow Jhioop: ( Day Path: Wyrd - The ascendant) Change and progress. Both species also have those who secretly follow Kwee*: (Night Path: Wyrm - Breakers) - Instability, Chaos and destruction.

Structure

The Taurien philosophies and methods arose in the ancient stone and copper age in the First City. The Taurien fashioned the Sacred Grove of the World Tree and the Pillars of the Devotions. The Night Path built their own secret societies and cults, eventually actually poisoning the Wells to destroy the knowledge and hide it forever. The Second Cities arose and built the Paths: setting them as guards and guides. In some the Night path fell to Corruption and evil, dominating and controlling or glorifying the Glory Twilight Path of War in the Small Wars period. With the rise of the Bronze age the Concord was established and the small kingdoms agreed to a Grand council of representative overseen by the High Speaker ( the Orb), and the Guard (The Spear) and the Guides (Scrolls). This was only marginally successful, and worked best in the War with Damamilia and failed to prevent internal struggles.  The Concord collapsed in the later Bronze age and produced the many states period of 10,000 tears and almost 100 years of struggles between and among the Taurien kingdoms. This ended in the Tribal period with influx humans  from the south and west and escaping Titans fleeing the Dead Kings.
The ancient Centaur bands wandered driving herds, hunting and planting grains they left to harvest upon return. Some formed settlements and the tribe leaders became Rule Makers, while Dream Speakers read omens of the Gods and seeking to sway their favor. The mountain tribes had made pacts and frequently worked with the aggressive minotaurs. The First City was built by the Three Nations ( the three centaur ethnicities: ancestral mountain tribes, Forest tribes and Plains tribes) with pillars of law and virtues that made the Houses. It fell to the Keepers of Secrets, the Wrathful and Deceivers opposed to the New Path of Change and Making. It was destroyed with poisoned wells, deception, fire and instigated raids of wild tribes.
The scattered tribes returned the smaller settlements and wandering for a time before the Second Cities. The Second Cities formed with concords of the Centaur, with Fae Forest Satyrs, The mountain centaur tribes with the Minotaurs, and centaurs with Humans with the feline Bahku in the plains. Each Compact formed trading posts and networks of trade. Sacred Groves were planted and tended and the New Pillars were made for the Day and Twilight Paths and the Houses. Each House formed the Templars to promote their ideals and watchfully guard the cities from the Night Path (Kweeǁ), the Yokai, barbarians, monsters and hyena-like Ghenid. From the Second cities came the bronze which was traded from place to place. A group of 3 cities (Dhoya, Okexeǁ and Mirhede) agreed to form a common council and paid wild tribes to guard the paths between. More cities sought to join, while each keeping independence and some with their own agreements with the wild tribes. The United Cities traded with wild tribes and other independent city states for nearly a century before a unified compact was agreed to. Many wild tribes had begun forming concords and from them began annual moots and several formed confederations of cooperation and negotiated agreement. The greatest was the Wind Hordes under the Twilight Path Centaur triad of Cheǁ Bijhiji, Avu Unvadi and ǁˀũǁ Wũnnũ.
While the Centaurs formed multicultural city states, the Damamilli cyclops formed uniform city-states under Priest-kings and Warrior Priest classes. The Centaur states battled between themselves and with the tribes and with increasing Damamilla power.

The Taurien Republic arose from basic elements of Centaur society: The extended herd and triad with calved young, who are all autonomous. The family unit reasoned and discussed to reach conclusions and make choices. The tribal herd "rulers' were weighers and balancers of factions and could be challenged by any adult, but frequently secured position by political alliance and merged families. Because Centaur life was ruled by debate and group choices, voting and representive democracy was the rule in Centaur settlements and cities. In the Compacts they granted rights to allied species who became involved in civic life with shared labor, observation of the laws and avoidance of the vices.
