Arrok

Spiritous liquor produced by steeping the nut of the narrok.

Properties

Material Characteristics

A clear, colourless liquid it burns with a merry blue flame and renders those who drink it rather less than merry and distinctly blue if they overdo it.

Origin & Source

This liquor originates in the nuts of the Narrok Tree grown in the Moran Mountains . The liquor is mainly produced in the central parts of the range, on the area surrounding Overby Tithing.

History & Usage

History

The steeping and fermentation of the nuts from the Narrokan was started by the Taru, who used the resulting weak liquor as drink in their autumnal rituals. In this form it has the inebriating effects of alcohol but also the ability to induce a sense of euphoria and a desire to dance. The distillation of this to produce Arrock was begun by the forces of the Moran Duchy when they briefly occupied the region in the late second century MD.
The effects of this were variable for it turned out that in addition to distilling the alcohol, they were also distilling (with varying effectiveness) the drug that produced the euphoria and desire to dance. As distillation techniques improved it became possible to separate these two components - or at least to distil off much of the alcohol with little of the euphoric, separate to a component which has the euphoric concentrated into the last part of the alcohol distilled over. It is this fraction that makes up Arrok (the other being known by any of the terms denoting crude spirit).

Everyday use

It is widely used in the central region of the Moran mountains to help get celebrations going, and to keep them going with a swing if they begin to flag too soon. Many a successful celebration or wedding has been attributed to the judicious use of Arrok - whether officially by the organisers or unofficially, by one of the guests. Too much of it, unfortunately results in a period of lethargy and depression - this tends to be the results of inexperience with itsuse, or more than one person deciding to liven up the party.
