Command Alpha

Central Node for Legion Communication

Please hold for instruction.   Orders are as follows.
Rendulgraph operator
The Legion owns and operates the largest number of Rendulgraphs in the world, and they're also the main organization responsible for sourcing of the Twinflesh required to build the devices. Thus, they've also got the most infrastructure related to keeping and using these instant-communication devices; called "Command" stations, the Legion has these spaces located all around the world. Each Command is a highly secure room full of Rendulgraph operators, all listening in and comminucating through their unique device of a specific Rendulgraph pair.

The White Box

Command Alpha in particular is the main room for the Legion's Rendulgraph operators -- it houses all the machines that are used in direct connection with any and all currently active projects. From the outside it's an unremarkable building: a large white concrete box that blends perfectly into its surroundings. Inside, it's a mess of wires, detectors, machinery, and people, all crammed into a tiny space in order to make securing it as easy as possible.

The Legion

This multinational, neutral, protective force is found in all corners of the globe. They were established thousands of years ago in order to fight the Rendlings and protect humanity from the monsters. Over the years they've amassed a large amount of power, as well as made some very important discoveries.

The Operators Within

The number of people currently working within Command Alpha, as well as within the other Legion Commands, is set by the amount of currently active missions the organization is running. Generally, anywhere from as few as 20 to as many as 100 people might be within the concrete box, working to keep Legion communication running as swiftly and as smoothly as possible.
Only about half at the most of these employees are working on the Command-end of a Rendulgraph pair -- where they're stationed constantly to ensure the lines stay open and consistent. Because a Rendulgraph can only communicate with its single direct twin, a network of the devices is impossible to set up; thus radio or physical media is required at either end of a Rendulgraph pair to be able to disseminate the information further.   Because of this limitation, there's a large number of people that work as "Relays". These workers are to take the information gathered by the Rendulgraph operators, and, after running it by those working within the Logistics Core present in every command, relay it to "lower", or more insecure lines of communication such as sending letters or broadcasting radio.   There's a small core of additional employees that don't work as Rendulgraph Operators or Relays as well; these are often Codebreakers that work directly with the Logistics Core employees to encrypt any communication intended to be sent out over short distance radio.

Report back to base at once. This is Command Alpha you are communicating with, not Command Gamma. You've managed to take the wrong Rendulgraph with you.

Command Structure

The Legion has three of these Commands located all across Cathedris; it helps them to have a local communication hub in each area to ensure total coverage of the planet. Command Alpha is in eastern Hansun, Beta is in Raktana, just a short distance away from The Comprilith, and Gamma is located to the north within the icy mountains of Abrador.
All three of these Command buildings share a similar set of vulnerabilities, and thus all three of them share a similar design and set of solutions to secure themselves. Rendulgraphs are entirely secure from twin to twin -- data can only be overheard or stolen at either end, when the information transfer occurs. Because these areas have a huge amount of Rendulgraphs all reporting in one specific location, security on the premises is as tight as possible; no one gets in or out of the building without an elite set of guards knowing.
Additionally, the building is made with the most up to date and advanced building materials known yet; it's constructed of triple layered heavy metal wrapped with two feet of insulation, all coated in a massive block of concrete.   The goal is to ensure no sound gets in or out of the building -- Rendulgraphs don't care what material stands between them and their pair, so they're not impacted by the structure at all.

The Legion do know how to organise things, don't they? :)

It's probably the thing they spend the second most amount of time on -- after trying to amass more power, that is

Seems like the legions takes their communication very serious, if they're using the best materials for the buildings. Very intriguing read!

The "White Box" reminded me of "the Blue Cube" a building I passed in San Jose CA every day for many years.

Loved the quotes in this article! And woah, it's wild how important - and dangerous - communication has become in this world. It's a good thing the Legion guards their rendulgraphs so well - it would be such a shame if one of them was stolen...
