Otto von Kassel

Otto von Kassel, Sr (a.k.a. The First Engineer)

Otto von Kassel was a scientist, Academy Professor, businessman and founder of the revolutionary science collective known as the Seven Engineers - commonly referred to as the First Engineer.   The von Kassel's have always been a powerful House in Garriland, regularly holding high positions of wealth and influence. Hence, Otto's launch to power was natural. An educated House, the von Kassel's held science in high regard, with many members becoming esteemed doctors, lawyers, biologists, physicists, and astronomers. Otto had strong fields in chemistry, physics, and engineering, and after graduating Hashmallum Academy travelled the larger continent of Carth on scientific expeditions.   Otto's grandfather was an acclaimed doctor, and started the medicinal company Kassel's Kures - a company dealing in tonics and medicines. Kassel's Kures became widely popular, even overseas in Isla de Phantos and the continent of Carth. The passive income made is what funded Otto and his many expeditions. As heir to the company, Otto would take control after the death of his father, and returned to Geo to manage the von Kassel Empire.   Disappointed in the limited progress Garriland was making in the way of science, Otto became a professor at the Academy in the hopes he would inspire the more ambitious students. After several years at the academy, Otto discovered a few promising students who shared the same drive and motivation he was looking for. These students were Maximillian Mandorf, Eleanore Korne, and Ruger Lareau. Together they aspired to ascend Garriland and it's inhabitants far beyond the rest of Carth with technology, eventually finding other members and forming the Seven Engineers under Otto's leadership. This group would start the Great Proliferation and turned the tide of the war in their favor. One of their great inventions were Vectors, a potion that would temporarily or permanently grant the user various supernatural abilities, and these were dispersed under Otto's medicinal company Kassel's Kures.   Nearing the end of the war, Otto's youngest son Clayus was killed in battle outside the Fovish city Vahur. Mourning his child, Otto immediately flew to the same battlefield, and was promptly taken by the victorious Hillenders and Fovish Elves. Otto hasn't been seen since and is presumed dead.
