Personal history
Jamie Bachman's father was of German decent and his mother was half Scottish. His mother's family, the MacBruis, was once a prestigious noble family in Scotland, but hard times had lost the family their estate and made them but humble farmers. Jamie grew up with a proud heritage but no social rank or recognition. His father was a miner. The family lived near Dumfries near where the old MacBruis estate resided.
Education
Jamie's father wasn't there for a lot of his life, but his mother spent every minute she could with him. She raised him to be proud of his MacBruis heritage and taught him how to act like nobility and have gentlemanly manners. She also taught him how to read and write.
Employment
Jamie was a farm hand for seven years before becoming a Midshipman in the Royal Navy at age 14. At age 20, failed his first lieutenant's examination. He tried again at the age of 21 and passed. At the age of 28, he was made master and commander of the brig HMS "Star." A year later he was made post-captain of the frigate HMS "Stallion."

Jamie hopes to one day restore the MacBruis family name back to the glory it once had. He is also extremely loyal to his friends.

Jamie is insightful and a good friend. He may not notice the big important things any better than the next officer, but he is very good at notice the small details others typically miss (thanks to his mother). He is also good at noticing and exploiting small flaws in others to his advantage, a skill he rarely uses on his friends. When he is in a high stress situation he is very composed and doesn't flinch easily. This gives him an excellent card game face.

Because of his noble heritage yet low social status, Jamie lacks confidence in his leadership capabilities especially when their are other officers around with higher social status. Despite having good leadership skills he prefers to just follow orders.

Relationships
History
Jamie first meets Marcia when jumped into her carriage while fleeing guards in Salvador. At first Marcia violently protested Jamie's presence, and Jamie had to physically restrain her to prevent her from blowing his cover. Once the guards had passed Marcia calmed down, she decided to have some fun with her intruder and started to talk to him and ask him questions. Jamie found her enchantanlly beautiful and enjoyed riding around in her carriage undetected. Marcia loved his Scottish accent, and decided to invite him into her home. After a couple of days together they quickly grew great respect for each other and fell in love. Jamie had to leave Marcia to continue his mission and to two were separated for some time. later that winter Jamie's near Salvador. So he sneaked into the port and asked Marcia to come with him. She agreed and brought her personal fortune with her. They were wed on the ship by Captain Morgan a couple of days later.
