Fey Forest

The trees, lad. The fair folk have their trees and they always know when one of them is lost. They're connected, you see. Somewhere deep in the forest, where no human can ever find, is a tree greater than any other you've ever seen. That's where all the roots go. That's where the Monarch and their Consort have carved their thrones and preside over all the land. Every court has one. All that I would ever give just to get a glimpse of one of those palaces... none of it could ever hope to be enough.

Geography

The Fey Forest of Lumin is known for being rather mountainous and it is not uncommon to find oneself wandering up to a ravine or into the side of a cliff. Fresh water streams and ponds are common, especially in the Spring.   There is no clear indicator that one has entered the Fey Forest. The trees there look remarkably similar to ordinary trees and the only real way to be sure is by how fast humanfolk become lost after stepping off the marked paths. In addition to this, one's perception of time and space is warped, so no one has ever successfully mapped the forest and none know just how large it really is.

Fauna & Flora

The forest is primarily made up of four different trees: poplar, aspen, maple, and birch. Spruce and fir become more common on the mountains, but only from about the midpoint. There are also several varieties of flowering and fruiting trees, along with various shrubs, berry bushes, and wild growing vegetables to satisfy foragers. A variety of spices can also be found in the forests, possibly due to fey influence.   It is worth noting that the trees in the Fey Forest, and indeed all the forested areas of Lumin, seem to perpetually hold onto their fall foliage, leaving the woods awash in colour all year long. The trees are also packed more densely than in an ordinary forest. Solasigh grows at the edges of the forest.   The fey are the forest's primary inhabitants, all manner of them. It is said that the forest is divided into four fey courts, determined by which tree is the dominant one in an area, though this is unconfirmed. The trees are also populated by the standard songbirds, squirrels, badgers, and the like. Deer can sometimes be seen roaming the forest, though they are rather unusual, bearing gold or silver antlers due to the magical influence of the fey leeching into their surroundings.

Natural Resources

Wood would be the main natural resource, if the fey wouldn't immediately seek retribution for someone taking down one of their trees. Only a skilled few individuals can differentiate the fey trees from ordinary ones, so the logging is rather limited, though there is still enough to export.   Fresh water is the most plentiful natural resource, collecting in streams and ravines in Springtime to be pumped by hand at the villages, or even melted from snow in the Winter.   The forests are plentiful with food as long as you can keep your bearings, and spices of many unique varieties can be found in abundance.
