Cliffs of Norim

Standing hundreds of feet tall, these grand craggy faces of red granite and sandstone defend the Northeastern portion of Crecia from the rough Autumn weather of the Zetian Sea.   Nestled within these cliffs lies the port town of Norim Harbour. Because of the shelter given by the cliffs, Norim Harbour is something of a desert; dry but with temperatures never exceeding 90o Fahrenheit and a lot of gravel on the ground from both mining and the continuous, slow wearing away of the cliffs. There is no proper beach here, rather the ground just seems to drop straight into the sea like a much smaller cliff.   The cliffs have served for years as markers for lost sailors, being visible from a great distance away. They are home to several colonies of Voloukris. People have made their livelihoods from and around these cliffs for generations, particularly because of the abundance of ore held within.

History

The harbour nestled between the cliffs were actually formed over the course of hundreds of years by the sea. Over time, as storms and swells battered the rockface, a large pocket of softer red sandstone was worn away, forming the area that was later settled as Norim Harbour.   Before the cliffs were worn, a tunnel was dug from roughly the current ground level up to the surface of the cliffs by a Starry Hillopes. This tunnel was discovered by humans settling Norim Harbour and then expanded to allow carts and wagons to pass through easily. Over time, tunnels branching off the main one were constructed to allow miners access to the rich ore veins within the cliffs.
