Sun-Steel

Sun-Steel is an extremely rare metal, found in only a few deposits in the known world. It was first mined (at least from the history we know) by the miners and clansfolk of Saint Valgamora in the The World's Edge Mountains. Since then, only a scant few deposits have been located. However, the metal has such properties, that make any deposit of it extremely valuable. Sun-Steel glows brilliantly with a bright colourful light when exposed to sunlight. These items can also be "charged" with light, and it was known that sun-steel left to bask in the lights of Nazzareth for a time would never lose their light. Beyond it being cosmetically beautiful (a depressing amount of sun-steel has been used to make jewellry), Sun-Steel light has a detrimental effect on daemons, werewolves, and other creatures of the night and The Shadowfell. In the days of old, Sun-Steel swords and other weapons were prized by imperial legionnaires. Even today, carrying a sun-steel sword is a sign of very high status and prestige, as only the wealthiest can afford to carry them. Some even say that the color given off by these items will change and shift based on the purity of the wearer, though this is only a rumor.   In addition, Sun-Steel has a quality which amplifies any enchantments placed on it. Though it is significantly harder to control by the enchanter, if done successfully, a Sun-Steel item will have stronger enchantments than otherwise possible. It is suspected that it is these differing enchantments, and not the wearer or wielder themselves, that changes the color of the light they give off.   these qualities are at the cost of ease of production though. Sun-Steel is notoriously difficult to forge, and due to it's rarity, training a new forgemaster in sun-steel forging is an astronomically expensive process. Forges must be built larger and hotter, massive vats of ice-water have to be replaced to cool the weapon down, and specialized equipment has to be used when handling the items. In addition, until tempered, sun steel is surprisingly brittle in stark contrast to it's almost indestructible nature once tempered properly. This means that inexperienced hands can ruin the steel if produced incorrectly.   Thus, items of sun-steel are very rare and expensive. Fantastic for wowing your friends at your next ball or soiree! Or killing daemons and monsters, that too.
