Order Maleficence

The Order Maleficence once specialized in removing the taint of undeath, exorcising ghosts and gheists, as well as rooting out and destroying necromancers. However in recent times they have begun to take on the role of inquisitors as well, rooting out heretics from within the church.
The hunters of the Order Maleficence are brutal and ruthless in the pursuit of their quarry, and will destroy them without mercy. In the eyes of a Maleficent Hunter, the necromancer or the ghost are not worthy of pity, because they are disgusting attempts to subvert the natural hierarchy of power. They believe that these beings are attempts by the weak and contemptuous who have already been defeated to try and artificially usurp power from the rightfully strong who have survived.
Their newfound duties as inquisitors began after their expulsion from the original home city of Lageta, after an incident where the local church authorities claimed that the order killed a large number of innocents in a magical accident. They were taken in by a powerful patron of the House Dey Malric of The Kingdom of the Swadians. Many members believe that the church had become corrupt, and had them expelled to conduct nefarious schemes. Whether this is true or not, the order has now been called by many nobles across the continent to intervene when over-zealous or unorthodox preachers spring up.
Many claim that they are overzealous in these pursuits against heretics, and most people tend to close their shutters when a hunter of the Order Maleficence comes into town, as the don't want to get caught up in the inquisition. Regardless of this fear and suspicion, even some within the church have admitted that they have done good by rooting out corruption within the church on occasion.
This order now has a headquarters in, Ostican, and House Dey Malric have provided them with an opulent fortress monastery adjacent to the palace there.
