Hubyar
The city of Hubyar is said to be built on the ruins of a luxurious hunting lodge built by the decadent and cruel king Thuran, whom the patriarch Saint Asera slew in vengeance for the temporary enslavement of his family. This memory may explain the worldview of the fierce and austere Banu Qild, who hold the castle today and who detest all frivolity. But the scent of jasmine that can be detected on the night breezes here carry an undercurrent of temptation. It was here that the hero Nimr came to grief, caught in the chamber of a Banu Qild maiden and left hanging in a cage in the market until he perished.
the city's owners, the Banu Qild, have been supporters of the imperial leadership and hereditary owners for many generations. In exchange for raising soldiers from the tribes of the surrounding desert for use in the imperial legions, they have been granted significant autonomy in the governance of their realm. As such, many describe the Banu Qild city of Hubyar as one of the most strict and authoritarian lands on the continent. The local tribes have been bent into submission by the Qild, and are forced to provide a tithe of soldiers from each generation of young people.
This tradition has produced some of the most feared warriors of the continent, and the cavalry contingents of the Banu Qild are well known for their prowess in battle. Much of this skill has been grown fighting ferocious beasts that dwell in the sands, such as giant man-sized scorpions. In addition, some of the most powerful sand druids hail from the deserts South of the city.
the city itself thrives mostly on the provision of tools, weapons, and livestock to the tribespeople of the regional deserts, in exchange for the tribes' work in mining silver from remote near-surface seams in the desert, and the raising of mercenaries. Much of the food to sustain the population is purchased (at reduced prices, due to their relationship to the Emperor) from Qasira.
