Titánia in Calmarendi | World Anvil

Titánia

Object Type

Titánia is a red supergiant star of spectral class M0Ia.

Location

In the City of Stars galaxy, in uncomfortable proximity to the Cal Star System.

Origin of the Name

Titánia, taken at face value to mean “a Titan” or “of the Titans”, would be a fitting appellation for this behemoth of a star. However, in Calmarendian folklore, Titánia is the name given to the Queen of the Fae and the star is not only symbolic of her existence or presence but is often portrayed as her home.

Is it mere coincidence that Shakespeare used the name for the Queen of the Fairies in A Midsummer Night’s Dream? Well, of course not; where do you think he got the idea from?

Supernova SN1993J

Titánia will inevitably and, from a cosmological perspective, soon explode. On Earth, in March 1993, a supernova was observed in M81. Was this Titánia exploding and, in all likelihood, wiping out life on Calmarendi? Well, actually, no but Jennifer was not in a position to know this when she found out about it.
