Eden
Defining Characteristics
Physical
Eden, whichever way one may choose to define its extent, is the largest of the Provinces by area as well as population. Its boundaries, however, are not fully defined because no one has ever properly decided where its northern borders are. In popular understanding, Eden stretches no further north than the line beyond which it is just too cold to live. Others, however, might have you believe that Eden holds dominion over all the land west of the Sierra Nevada not formally part of any other province. This is not a claim entertained by any of those other provinces.
Although bounded to the east by the Sierra Nevada and to the west by the Sierra Morena and the Sierra Azul, Eden is not a mountainous province and is noted for its vast open prairies.
Social
Eden (and, in particular, the south-central area thereof) is regarded as the cradle of human civilization. Although there is no documentary or archaeological evidence to back this up, it remains a strong folk memory probably for the reason that this is, indeed, true. It may be this also that gives rise to the notion that the other five provinces are populated only by malcontents who have turned their backs to the true "motherland" and, in turn, to the rather insular and conservative outlook that many Edenese people have.
