Avon
Defining Characteristics
Physical
Avon occupies the entirety of the major south-central peninsula of the continent. Its peninsularity is somewhat fractal in nature, with many sub-peninsulas forming almost-inland seas and giving the province an extraordinarily long coastline.
It is sometimes referred to as an island in view of the fact that most of its border with Eden is defined by two long, narrow salt-water inlets, east and west, but these are, in fact, separated by higher ground in the middle which forms a solid, dry connection with the continental mainland. When referred to as an island, it is usually as the Island of Avalon. It is uncertain whether Avalon is a fanciful extension of Avon or if it is the peninsula’s original name that has been abbreviated to the more prosaic Avon over time.
