Guards of Hearttree

The Law Enforcement of Heart of Gaea and surrounding areas.

Structure

The Guards are led by the Captain of the Hearttree Guards, who makes all decisions and oversees investigations and actions of the Guard. Anyone hired by the organization is called "Guards" and seniority (within the corps) determines rank. To be hired in the guard one has to undergo a series of tests as well as serve the guards for a year as a "recruit".

Culture

The Hearttree Guards have been hired by the Children of Gaea to protect the city and do so by keeping an eye out for any criminal activity, with a focus on dark magic and drugs, in the city as well as the surrounding area. The Guards are viewed as generally helpful to tourists and pilgrims, but the all-year-residents view them as rude and at times blesphemers, as most do not worship Gaea, and are therefore not active members of the community. Most of the Guards have not been raised in the nearby areas or culture, but come from afar.

History

The Hearttree Guards where created during The War of the Rathostian and Ryahilheinn Mountains  as the rivalry between the Elven and Dragonborn tribes became a threat to the Tree of Creation and subsequently the Children of Gaea. Wanting to protect the children and the Tree of Creation locals took to arms and made trenches and fortifications around the city to keep the two tribes at bay. Many thousands of peasants died protecting the Tree and the Children, but they were successful and the tribes gave up on attempting conquer the town. The clerics of Gaea aided the wounded, some of which stayed for the remainder of the war to protect the town. During the war more peasants came to the aid of the town, and at the end of the war the Guards of Hearttree had been formed.
