Regalti Hex Writing System

This Hex Writing system, called Balver by the Regalti, is a modern digital script that uses colors and hexagons symbols rather than a script of letters. The Regalti are a species with extremely sensitive Vision Capabilities, and this digital script was devloped with the intent that younger Regalti could learn it easier than the complicated written scripts that most Regalti nations have. It was also extensively used in the Regalti Allied Navy, the gigantic military that keeps the peace across the The Delvi Star System.

Through extensive research when developing this language, it was found that Regalti are actually much more receptive to colors than shapes. As a result, this script has seen widespread use across the Regalti version of the Internet. Hexagons aren't the only shape used, just the preferred one. Squares, dots, and stars are also used, and sometimes, different shapes are used to represent consonants and vowels or rare letters.

Through the centuries the script has developed on its own in various isolated Regalti Space colonies as well as on their various habitable worlds, making the script naturally develop from a rigid representation of sounds to something more organic (but on that note, the colors/shapes shown here is the original script).

The way it works is that it starts with the color red representing Nasal sounds at the front of the mouth, and it works its way back to the rear of the mouth to glottal sounds represented by white, or at least a close approximation is made considering all the different ways Regalti can pronounce sounds. Vowels start with harsh closed vowels and works its way to open vowels in the same way.

There are, of course, issues with this script because it relies on color to function properly, at least for species that can't see billions of collors like Regalti can. If the digital screen isn't calibrated properly, the colors can appear to blend together. This is especially problematic of several sounds. (This can be prevented by using outlined shaped to represent some colors instead. ). This system is also terrible for color blind people, Humans, Regalti, or otherwise, though, the Regalti have Cybernetic Implants that can easily correct colorblindness, or give species like humans the ability to see like they do.

Author's Notes

Definitely a Work in Progress and there are errors. I had the idea of a color based script floating in my head for a few days and needed to write it down somehow. The purpose of this script is to confuse the hell out of my human characters at some points in the story who can't see the same color definition as Regalti can (and confuse people on world Anvil who wonder what the heck the colored hexagons are for on some pages after I add those in). Otherwise, it might never be mentioned at all.   Used Font Awesome to get the hexagons. Until I develop the language more, I will likely not use it anywhere else but this page because it requires a large amount of BBcode to properly write and I need to get the system more developed first.   also, the message at the top says this: Click to see

I like the idea of this article, using colors and hexagons as a writing system. Nice that you also thought about the blind. I'm really looking forward to the further implementation.

Thanks for reading and leaving this comment!   I'm not gonna lie, I actually forgot this article existed! I created it way back in 2021, and couldn't figure out a good way to implement it in my articles.   I did just start the process of going through the 150 or so articles on this world and reworking them to match formatting and clean up inconsistencies. It is as good of a time as any to get this implemented as well!
