Maeve Sinclair

Maeve Rianna Sinclair (24 September 1216 - 14 November 1290) was an Ardunan politician and revolutionary who operated as a spy for the United Labour Front in the years leading up to the Ardunan Revolution. A junior member of the Revolutionary Provisional Government during the Ardunan Civil War, Sinclair served in the new syndicalist government in various positions, becoming the first female president of Ardun in the 1262 general election. She also headed the Trade Union Congress as Chairwoman between 1274 and 1282, making her one of the few people to have served as both Ardunan head of government and head of state.

Early Life

Childhood

Maeve Rianna Sinclair was born in the city of Gwenford to Ingrid and Austell Sinclair, in a moderately wealthy household. A sickly child for the first years of her life, she was tutored by a family friend until the age of 7. She became healthier in the later years of childhood, and was allowed to attend school, where she became a model student throughout elementary and high school.

Education

Despite gender restrictions, Sinclair was allowed to attend law school at Amberwyn University in the city of Valken due to recommendations. In university, Sinclair would continue to pursue academic excellence, being amongst the top of her class for all her years of study. She also studied a variety of subjects outside of her field, such as philosophy, chemistry, and geography, as well as a casual interest in the history of the occult. Sinclair also became acquainted with syndicalist ideas through the works of Nestor Partes and George Snowden.   In 1237, Sinclair was hired for a prestigious internship with the Liberal Party of Ardun, under MP Thomas Horner. Working at the Ardunan Parliament, she was introduced to Jack Lennon, leader of the Ardunan Labour Party. Impressed with her administrative skills, Lennon made attempts to recruit her into Labour instead. Sinclair initially declined, but in time she found herself increasingly disillusioned with the political establishment.

Revolutionary Activity

Joining the ULF

During a rail workers' strike in Valken, Sinclair was approached by leading members of the United Labour Front to help them bring Liberal MPs into contract negotiations as mediators. Due to internal miscommunication, Thomas Horner sent her in his stead with no accompaniment or support. Sinclair was therefore stuck behind the picket lines talking to union leaders when the workers' camp was attacked by right wing paramilitaries of the Runik League, who were acting as strikebreakers for the railway companies, and a firefight ensued. Sinclair was horrified at what she saw as unprompted violence against the workers, and demanded that MP Horner condemn the paramilitaries, which he refused to do.   That same week, she approached Jack Lennon and joined the ULF. Though she offered to quit her internship, Lennon advised against this, explaining that she could be much more useful as an informant within another party's office.

Intelligence Work

Sinclair graduated the following year, and was hired back into the Liberal Party as a political aide, though she was secretly an active "Ulfie" and participated in meetings at the Malton's Prospect, a pub where the ULF leadership often met.
