Elder of Warmhall
An Elder of Warmhall is a member of a Farlander tribe who becomes a chieftain's widow. As Farlander culture does not permit them to re-marry, they are sent to live within the wooden walls of Warmhall year-round, and are responsible for the proper upkeep of the settlement during the off-season. Elders are spiritual leaders, and are also responsible for consulting the gods, and providing council to chieftains.
Appointment
When a Farlander chieftain's wife becomes a widow, she remains a member of her current tribe until winter, when she is taken to Warmhall for good. There, she will receive gifts and offerings from both her kin and other chieftains, before being bathed in the blood of a snowbull and taken to a sweat lodge to be purified, and to establish a connection to the gods.
Duties
Elders are required to give council to chieftains, and to mediate between tribes. In a dispute, the verdict of an Elder of Warmhall is gospel.
