She is a lesser known princess of the Commonwealth of Edria and was married to the Duke of Agria to help cement ties between the two countries.
Before her marriage, Leah was allowed to join the Royal Navy, under a special dispensation, and worked her way up the ranks to lead some important battles. The Duke of Agria wasn't happy with her appearance but went through with the marriage for appearance sake.
The two came to an agreement: She could stay in the Royal Navy as long as he could have mistresses and any child he had with them would be his heir.
Her last mission on the RS Calypso went well until her captain, Luther Turner kidnapped her and other members of the crew, taking them to Sunwater Island and to the Ogres.
Note about her past: Her father was a prince of the Realm and loved her unconditionally. State secrets were found in his room and everyone thought he was selling them to other countries. Tried and convicted as a traitor, she never saw her father again. This was part of the reason she was allowed to join the Royal Navy, as a way to redeem the family name.

She has the will to prove herself since she doesn't live up to everyone idea of the perfect beautiful princess. In the Royal Navy, she worked herself up the ranks by working hard.
On Sunwater Island, her initial goal was to survive. After that it was a matter of leading as she felt she was intended to do by birthright. And lead the Ogres into a new way of life (again a matter of survival for all).
