Personal history
He has a wife a daughter back in the Kingdom of Al Qurdaha. He'd heard about Shadow Horizon growing up and had been curious about what happened to it. He never thought he'd actually meet it or its crew.
But when he did, it was a shock. Plus, he hadn't realized that his ship and food had been touched by a Ghost nor did he know about what made Ghost Ships. So, when he and his crew started getting sick, all he knew was that he couldn't risk getting his family or his Kingdom sick as well.
Once The Kistna became a Ghost Ship, and the crew became skeletons or Ghosts, James became fixated on the last request Amiel Blaylock, Captain of Shadow Horizon. He's very insistant that they help get Morgan Stagg home.
