Kobold

While Dragonborn proclaim to be the progenitors to dragons, dragons are the indisputable origin of kobolds. Kobolds are odd, small dragonmen that appear in areas teeming with draconic influence. A clan of kobolds can just spontaneously generate when a dragon spends too long in a location, typically its lair. When generated in this way, they tend to have the same coloration and disposition as their 'host' dragon. Second generation kobolds may take on patterned coloration and complex dispositions. Kobolds may treat their host dragon in a variety of ways: as a god, master, boss, captor, ally, etc.   Kobolds live fairly short lives in sheltered areas due to their inherent sunlight sensitivity. Some take deep satisfaction serving their host dragon while others may rebel and leave despite their diminutive nature. Their small and fragile bodies lead them to be highly social and dependent on others. Living in close proximity to their kin, kobolds hate being cornered or alone; sullen silence or neurotic hysteria can result when they are in these situations for extended periods of time. Kobold physiology can deviate widely with some sprouting leathery wing, resistant skin or even being able to spit small gouts of elemental energy. Kobolds who breed can be parthenogenic (asexual reproduction in absence of mates) or sequential hermaphrodites (gender changing) dependent on the size and manner of their clutch.   Few leave the safety of their tribe to become adventurers with most originating from metallic dragons or dragons living disguised in cities. Adventuring kobolds still crave social interaction and often cling to their parties after their inciting quest is completed. Outside of their diligence, kobolds are known for their precision building, improvised devices, and cave diving. Metropolitan kobolds thrive by working in tight and often deadly places.
